More grip welcome

Thought I'd wake up the thread a bit by saying the grip in my new front Pilots is reassuring in the wet weather and hey the road salt has been rained away so get those M's out of the garage.Re-checked the torque on the wheel nuts and they were fine.

I have 275 MPS4s on the front. To be honest the m5 only really needs them on the rear, you could get away with tyres half the price on the front axle. I like things to match though.

It's best to be fully matched for a car like this.In dry conditions taking a bend really fast with lesser tyres could cause understeer I don't like.

I'm not so sure. I never used to put Michelins on my e39 or e60. I used to drive like a numpty sometimes, especially in the e39 and was always fine.

Nope, just never required Michelins on my cars. The M5 is the only car I've needed expensive tyres for.

Before I bought the car I had a lot of reservations about how it was going to behave in the wet and on ice, all based on what you get back from a google search. I have to say it was all unfounded...it just needs a delicate touch on the throttle. I’ve had an awd Volvo on winter tyres and it wasn’t any better in anything other than snow (and much worse on a wet corner) even then you’d really not want to actually drive on a snow covered surface. Those winter tyres were dire in most normal road conditions, like a kids toy with solid plastic tyres.

I don’t mind forking out for those Michelin tyres, at normal speeds in any conditions they make the car feel very safe and they seem to last a very long time. My old S class went through tyres like sweeties.

I’d love to melt some on a track but I don’t quite have the deep pockets for that

Running the 19's with Pirelli Sottozero series II tyres, none of this "dont want to use it through winter" nonsense

Once a week it gets washed and i run the under chassis wash with some bilt hamber surfex to keep the salt off her.

Wheels are ceramic coated.
