Can confirm Balv CC is great. Haven't had Oban 18, but the 16 was lacking in my opinion. It was good, but seemed like all of its flavors were muted.

Question - anyone tried Hibiki or other Japanese blends? Been curious for a while, but need some direction.

Im almost out of Plantation 20yr, but I did buy a nice bottle of patron for margharitas this weekend, anyone have a good recipe. I usually use frozen lime juice concentrate, citron, tequila and ice.
For me:
2 parts Tequila
1 part Orange Liqueur
Fresh squeeze lime
Shaken over ice
Enjoy

Hibiki is actually quite good, when you can get it. Never has it been harsh. I had some of the bottle I bought for my BIL Saturday night.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Trader Joe's has a 16 and 18 year old scotch that are both very good for the price. Those are my current daily sippers until they run out of stock.

Look close at the label and see who the bottling company is. Costco does that with a few recognized distilleries.

These are the ones. They had an 18 year last year as well, but sold out before I was able to pick up a bottle and don't remember what distillery it was from.

Someone mentioned this about a year ago. Naturally, being the excitable person that I am, I jumped up and headed to my local TJ's - only to find out that they are not allowed to sell liquor in Connecticut

Those individual bottlings can be from first rate distilleries like Lagavulin or Oban, but they are individual casks (or a small batch), so it is kind of hit or miss if is a really good one. If you search a little online, you can probably find out the exact source.

Hmm, not thrilled with the Zaya. Just doesn't hit me right. It's got a nice nose, very sweet. But the finish is harsh and oily to me. Maybe a splash of OJ or pineapple will take the edge off.
