A. I would never pay over $500 bucks for any intake system for the F10 M5.

B. It's not a RAM Air system unless it has components that directly channel the air from outside into the intakes. I don't see any components that are of a scoop like design.

C. Like somebody else said Dyno results are easy to post up. I would rather see a video showing 2 F10 M5's side by side, one with the new intake setup the other completely stock. If the car with the intake setup wins, they can have my money. Until then I am skeptical.

The RAM AIR name comes from the (2) CF air scoops which are mounted on the inside of the front grills, these scoops channel air to the intake boxes.

I have highlighted them in RED below.



Once more information and videos are released I will be sure and post them here ASAP, as I know many members would like to see "real world" results.

This product was only just released officially on 6/14 in Japan.

That's still not RAM air.

You're talking about ducted air into an air box and then into a forced induction engine. Quite simply, it's not ram air. Ram air would imply that you are pressurizing the intake into the engine over atmospheric. Simply, you're providing more air in the intake than the engine (which is nothing more than a fuel / air pump) can pull through at any given RPM and load.

You're not doing that with forced induction. THe pressure in the intake manifold is a function of the turbo and the associated controls (ECU, waste gate, etc.) only. Not the intake. The only thing this intake (or any other intake on a forced induction engine) could possibly do is eliminate vacuum in the intake pre-turbo. That's it. Whether or not that's worth power depends on whether or not the vacuum in the intake prevents the turbo from making maximum boost at the target airflow for the given RPM / load. Vacuum in the intake is bad, but it's not guaranteed to restrict power.

Cool intake, but those gains are hard to believe, even with an engine moving this much air. In order to make that much more power, the stock air filters must be VERY restrictive.

Those little scoops are likely worth less than 5 inches of water in increased pressure inside the air box. Which is about 0.18 psi. I've tested similar systems on a manometer using two x 2" round ducts (high performance ducts such as used on race cars) fed by large oval scoops into the same air box. Max differential was approximately 8 inches of water of pressure.

To clarify, the RAM AIR name carries over from their line of intakes for all types of engines, including N/A and forced induction. To be more specific, it is the name of the specific product line from GruppeM and nothing else.

The Dyno was from a Dynapack system in Japan. Once we receive the intake stateside, we can have some more tests done with a more familiar dyno system, such as a DYNOJET or a MUSTANG Dyno to alleviate any doubts or concerns.

If there is any gain, it's prob from the less restrictive air filter at the expense of letting in more crap into the engine. I doubt those fancy carbon has any real benefit.

The OEM panel filters flow much better than most people think.

"restrictive filter" is marketing gimmicry.

It's prolly gonna be over 3K because all of the parts are made from Carbon Fiber.

I'll give someone $500 max, right now for an intake that is made out of non-carbon fiber that makes real gains in power. And I'm talking YouTube videos of F10 M5's with aftermarket intakes that beat stock M5's without them.

By the way Dinan has confirmed it will be designing an intake system for the F10 M5. So I would hold your breath for that instead.

Puuurty, but it seems that just about it. Oh yeah, and pricey.

My experience with GruppeM hasn't been all that great. Their E39 M5 application was greatly flawed as it was an open-air design and actually sucked hot air in. On the RS 4, caused CELs which no tuner could fix. On either car, their performance gains were never substantiated independently.

Pretty and sexy as Kate Upton, but that's about it... A lot to pay for eye candy, which you rarely even see unless you drive with the hood open. LOL
