Got my resonator delete a couple of days ago. I couldn't really tell the difference from the inside but went through a long tunnel and the upshifts are incase now. I also have cold start so couldn't tell the difference there.

Now I'm debating replacing the mufflers with resonators and some muffler tips to get some more sound. I had catless downpipes but I couldn't stand with the smell of gas.

Here is a video that I've made. I'm debating putting the resonators in for the mufflers to get some more sound but reduce the drone

Hi all, just to share my experience if it helps you guys. I bought my F10 M5 last year and thought the exhaust was way too quiet for my preferences.

I did the exhaust flap mod (using jubilee clips) which was ok but quite loud on start up.

I contemplated the exhaust silencer mod (opening up the stock silencers and wrapping the perforated pipes) but was still worried about the cold start.

My ideal preference was to have the exhaust sound quiet on start up and low revs but sound louder and deeper when driving enthusiastically. And one very important requirement was to have minimal drone.

I decided the way to go was to have the cold start mapped out (along with a stage 1 tune whilst I was there anyway &#128522.

I then decided to do a partial resonator delete and silencer mod. I then took off the jubilee clips and reinstated the valves.

Let me tell you, the car sounds perfect! Almost as quiet as stock when starting and driving around normally but once you start driving at a higher rpm the car sounds brutal. And it's not obnoxiously loud, it has a lovely deep tone and the volume is louder. You can even hear the turbo spooling down after a rev when stationary.

Exhaust crackles and burbles will be more defined.

Even though I didn't opt for a "pops and bangs" map, the car will still pop and bang on occasions because of the combination of the tune and the exhaust mod.

Hope this helps 👍🏾

What do you mean by partial resonator delete and silencer mod, are there articles here on what that means exactly?

So there are two resonators (left and right), both are opened up and partially wrapped (straight piped).

And both of the silencers and opened up and wrapped/straight piped.

Thus keeping the appearance and build quality of a stock exhaust system but modifying the internals.

I think the problem is that in the UK, they call mufflers "silencers". So what he's done is removed the resonators and replaced with straight pipes. Then taken off the mufflers, gutting them and then reinstalled them back in.

Thanks bud. Yeh i couldn't quite understand. I thought on the resonators he opened that box too gutted them made them straighpipes but covered the resonator so it didnt look different and now that you mentioned mufflers as silencers also made sense what you are explaining.
Pictures sometimes speak louder than words.

I just welded straight pipe in mine. 80mm is what you need.

Thanks guys for the reply.
Looking at that picture what are your thoughts on straight piping the section after the resonators too? It looks restrictive there?

That's the X pipe, or BMW's attempt at the X pipe. You need to keep this or change for a better one. Not sure on the science behind it all though.

Interesting, would you say it's restrictive too? What if you straight pipe it as well as the resonators?
