Escort Passport Max 2 - Real World Performance

Guys

Be interesting to see what folks think of this detector - not sure if there's a thread on it (sorry).

Anyway cut along story short got pulled over this weekend by RCMP on
highway 2 East bound back to Calgary after long weekend in Beautiful BC. Granted I was over the limit of 90 kph (I was apparently doing 138 kph) - this detector never picked up the cop who was on the other side of the highway.

Not really impressed at all - Ive had Passport Redline & Valentine before which I think perform better in real situations.

Any thoughts.

I have this radar and had one instance where it didn't pick up a motorcycle cop hiding with a radar gun. Not sure if it was the radar or he wasn't using the gun. But I have been skeptical about this radar since buying it. I had the passport 9500 and it worked great for 3 years.

Just bought this unit last week as a provisional / portable solution before I get a built in. Decision was based off of positive reviews from the Max. Understand the Max2 is essentially same plus live.
Have yet to have an encounter.

Damning myself here....

No radar detector and 52K miles with the M5....no "encounters." but I do use WAZE quite a bit.

Sorry to hear this. Maybe it was laser? Or maybe POP. But the max should have still picked up on it. Have you connected it to the computer and make sure all the freq. are enabled that are in your area ? You can adjust what signals are blocked ect.

Redline is the best at detecting at great distances.

My Redline is currently offline - waiting for replacement speaker from Escort. Funny as when I had this unit running it was much better at long range detection especially on long highway trips.

I have no problem with KA band detection with Max2 - picks it up anywhere. My issue was on the long weekend, out on the highway, didn't detect the RCMP officer in his car on the other side driving the opposite way - the median between us was some grass verge.

I would add that Ive heard there are new radar guns out sepecially here in Canada (DragonEye etc) which are very hard to detect. I'm wondering if Escort's radars are having a tough time detecting these. Hopefully someone here can shed some light.

On a positive note got my replacement speaker installed in the Redline - working as new now - Ive always liked this unit (as well as Valentine 1).

After 6 weeks of real world use on 80% highway, set on "auto", I must say I'm satisfied with performance. It has saved me over 10 times, with plenty warning, under variable circumstances. It has picked up cruisers in oncoming traffic, static speed traps on secondary roads, and pop radar.
Another nice feature I like is that it really does learn false alarms ands stores them automatically. This can take some time as you must make multiple passes on same signal. Most of my commute chatter has been virtually eliminated, which is very nice as it avoids desensitization to the alarms. Don't really use theLive app to often, as most threats are long gone by the time I am rolling by. Not as widely used as Waze, and thefore I wonder if the crowd sourced Intel is deep enough to be effective.

All in all, I like it. would recommend.

That said, I've no idea what it is not picking up. Passed a few cops without a warning and assumed they had their guns switched off.

I've heard good things about the redline for straight hwy use. Glad you've got it sorted.

I am in Alberta and have passport max in the car, it is no longer effective on side unmarked photo locations and radar. It used to be effective in the last two years, I suspect the cops changed bands or freq. actually I am thinking of selling it.

go for the redline or V1 - much better especially with updated firmware.
