Creaking after shutting off

Does something in the suspension adjust after shutting the car off? I have a creaking noise every time I turn the car off. Sounds like the suspension “settling” or something like that. I can’t pinpoint it. Thoughts?

I've heard it too. I can't pinpoint what it is, but it sounds like it's part of the "shut-down" procedure on the car.

Definitely the exhaust valve closing. Spray some lubricant on the shaft for the butterfly valve on each side. It will quiet it down for some time.

No idea what hat noise is but my 03 330i ZHP did it, my 08 e90 M3 did it (oddly my 04 e46 M3 did not) and my wife's 2013 X5 and my 2015 M5 all do it. It's like as soon as the ingnition shuts off, there's the noise.

A lot of bmw engines have some kind of crankcase pressure valve that opens a short time after shutting down, so sometimes you hear that "last exhale" if the environment is quiet.
