Who needed coils and plugs with Stage 1 Tune

Hey guys, Im going to pull the trigger on a Stage 1 Tune. I have picked my tuner and he recommends since my car is a 13 we change out the coils and plugs. I do all my own wrenching so thats not an issue. My car has 9k miles and plugs were changed prior to me getting the car so they only have about 4k miles on them. Im just curious how many of you guys had issues with the stage 1 tunes and misfires where you have to swap coils and plugs. I would rather not do it if not needed, so contemplating doing the tune and seeing how the car runs. Just looking for some feedback.

Thanks!

I have been doing research on Stg. 1 tune myself and have spoken with few tuners in my area (Northern Virginia). Only one tuner said he recommends replacing the factory plastic charge pipes with metal ones and one step colder spark plugs. Cost of parts quoted was $525 and ~$450 in labor.

Otherwise everyone is saying that replacing plugs or coils are not required for Stg 1 tune.

Since the plugs on your car were changed only 4k miles ago, and 9k overall miles is very low miles, it does not makes sense to replace the coils. Perhaps replace the plugs with one step colder to be on the safe side since you can do it yourself.

Once you get the tune please share the details, dyno, etc..

When I had Mission Performance stage 1 my spark plugs were oem and had 10k. Never had a hiccup. I've read that 13 probably need coils but I would try the tune first and go from there. No use in spending money ahead of time

Thanks guys, thats what Im thinking too, load the tune and see how she does. I spoke to a bunch of tuners and the others felt my coils and plugs would be a non issue on a stage 1 with my low mileage.

Good luck and share some before and after acceleration videos, etc.

hey bud, when i went stg1 with mine i had misfires, replaced spark plugs and decided go step colder and gap them. no issues after.
Just go for it seeing they don't have many miles on them, test it out, worse case scenario you get misfires and you know then to replace them. FYI didn't change my coils as they looked ok to me.

Thanks buddy I think that's what I'm going to do. Just waiting to hear back from tuner. Who did you end up going with for your tune?

To OP -

Your 2013 had 9,000 miles on it, may I ask what you bought it for? And when as well?

And the triple black looks amazing BTW!!

And hats off to Mike at BPM - I had him code in XM/Sirius radio for me a year ago and it just 'works' - great service and will have him do a Stage 1 for my E92 M3 soon

Hey bud, bought the car with 6000 miles 2.5 years ago. I paid top dollar just because the low mileage and the car was "perfect". Any by top dollar I mean just the high end at the time for a 2013, but I just fell in love w the car.

Yup sometimes you just fall in love.... lol the money I spent was well worth it to me. I started out with a solid stock, non abused car and I got to do all the mods.
