I'm going to try the ATV tomorrow. If I can't get full screen, I'll keep the FTV.

It's easy with CIC. I do not have an M5. I asked here to see if anyone is familiar with a parameter to change res. OP tapped in with a LVDS device hence his full screen. Seems to be the way to go actually. What I did was.
Code option 601 to CIC. I used FBas #2 for video in. I bought and HDMI to composite converter and wired L&R RCA audio into aux1 in center consul and video RCA into FBas #2. When I select TV in idrive boom there's my Apple TV. Mount it under the glovebox and remote works great and you'll never see it.

Were you able to get the ATV to display in full screen?
No. Best I can get is same as 6nr. Unless someone has a coding parameter that can be used to assign resolution to an FBas port, I would have to tap into LVDS to do it. That is what OP's device does and it seems to be the way to go.
