Headlight Washers - MOT

Just read that when you have an MOT they will test the headlight washers to make sure they are working.

If like me you have coded them not to work as it sprays fluid all over the bonnet as well as the headlamps which annoys me then when its MOT time don't forget to un-code them.

I don't even have any. I presume that they were an option which is dohbly surprising. Firstly, who'd pay extra for them and secondly, something as trivial as headlight washers should be standard.

Out of interest, why didn't you just not press the button rather than coding them not to work?

You can't just press a button to disable just the headlight washers

To my knowledge any car that has xenon headlights fitted as standard will also be fitted with headlamp washers, that's the law. Unless your m5 has halogen headlights, which I highly doubt, then it certainly has headlight washers.

Mine certainly doesn't. I noticed the blanking plates just below the headlights and had specifically wondered whether some M5s had headlight washers. Unless they are super trick retractable headlight washers, mine doesn't have any and it's a standard UK RHD car.

I presume from this that they work at the same time as the windscreen washers. I used to own a STI which had headlight washers but there was a separate button. I assumed (apparently wrongly) that the M5 was the same.

They are indeed retractable. They work every so many windscreen washes with the headlights on.

Hence why I coded them off, it annoys me when it puts a mist of soapy water all over the bonnet.

Blanking plates you are in an M5 not a poverty model.

As has been said they are retractable

How very whizzy. Is there any way to make them do it or do I just have to keep trying until I run out of washer fluid?
