We do have mod-file database's create in-use that eliminates the need to use a PC when initially installing the OFT, now. This removes the need to use a PC, unless you want to upload and use a new/different tune file vs. what will be auto-generated.

Thanks again!

I hope that Openflash gets back to responding because at some point I'll likely put DP's on and want an updated tune... I would hate to have to change tunes just to accommodate.
As a side note- if you get any tune, make sure you put fresh plugs (gapped .20-.22) and strong coils. my car went from fine "stock" to drivetrain malfunction/limp mode soon as I tried to make a WOT pass before I put fresh plugs/coils. my car has 49k miles. now it's super strong with no drivetrain issues... other than smoking my 305 Pilot Cup 2 tires every day :-) I'll be switching to R888R's very soon.
What kind of plugs did you put in and where did you get them? I'm having issues with the tune as well where if I'm more than 50% to WOT I'll just go straight to Drivetrain malfunction. It feels like the car is sucking in a lot of air and getting ready to dump and just take off but then limp mode kicks in.
Have to turn car off and back on but engine light stays on but no code shows up when I try to pull it.

Just recently flashed to OpenFlash myself, great experience so far. As soon as I flashed it and got the car to operating temp first pull 3rd gear only from 4k was fine. Second time it started to break up, and only tried one more time after that and it was breaking up. No codes or errors pulled. Next day got new Bosch coils and NGK 97506 gapped to .020 plugs put in and better than ever. Honestly surprised at the power difference. Couldn't be happier. FYI car had 21,000 miles on it at time of changing plugs, coils. Now have almost 22,000 after I did a rally recently and normal driving. Car has BMS intakes and turner exhaust on 93 octane.

@naiza3k wonder if your elevation has something to do with the tune. I am not aware on this platform, but other platforms I have been part of I have known that elevation has altered and hindered some tuners tunes to operate properly at elevation? just a thought.

Plan on doing a separate thread soon.

I just ordered the same plugs, do you think the coils are necessary?

You shouldn't need plugs or coils with OFT

Some people have had issues with the V2 and swapped plugs but its still not needed

For me it was just cheap insurance and while they were in there. I've never had someone change plugs and coils until this car. Due to breaking back last year and just nervousness of bricking the DME somehow knowing my luck, I let a shop take care of it.

Bought Bosch coils from rock auto, and would have the plugs but they were OOS. Went to twisted tuning for plugs.

Agreed, I was having the same issues but now the car is running great after I went with 2 step colder plugs.

It seems that they have disappeared again. I submitted a ticket for my OTS tunes 6 days ago and have not heard a word. It is interesting .... I had a connection problem with my computer and tablet initially and Anthony responded via email and walked me through the issue quickly. The last ticket for the tunes is assigned to Shiv and I have heard nothing.

I know that they are developing and testing but that isn't an excuse for poor end user service. I own a business ... If I took 6 days (and counting) to respond to a clients email inquiry I would quickly be out of business.

Come on guys you have to do better on after purchase support. I am the second owner of the tablet after purchasing it from a forum member. Maybe if you are not the original purchaser you get ignored or pushed to the back of the line?

Whatever the case I am still waiting for OpenFlash to impress me. At this point, if someone asked me for a positive recommendation I would not be able to give it.

As a follow up to my previous post concerning response from OpenFlash. After waiting for 7 days I got this email from Shiv:

Hi Sam,
I'm sorry for the late response. I have attached a 91oct tune that should get you up and running nicely.

https://support.openflashtablet.com/...r-virtual-read

Best Regards,
Shiv Pathak

There was a tune file attached. However when I downloaded it an attempted to upload it to my OFT I received the following message:

The checksum of file Stg1 v1.1 91oct_00001242033101_000010CA3B8201_000010CE3B820F (1) is wrong

I emailed Shiv to find out what the error and the accompanying solution was. That was 8 days ago and I am still waiting. Does anyone on the forum have any idea what is going on with OpenFlash? They are either on their way out of business, overwhelmed with business and understaffed or just don't give a s***.

So that leads me to two questions:

1. Has anyone else gotten this error message and have a solution for it?

2. Absent the solution I have an OFT that will go on the classified's forum for $500 and BPM Sport just got a new customer.

I just cannot see why Openflash have difficulty replying to people. It takes 2 mins to read an email and reply. It's not like the issue stated here will be uncommon for them, it will be a very easy fix for someone in the know.

Openflash, your product had been purchased, you have received the money, your customer would like the PRODUCT HE PURCHASED. He didn't want the tablet, he wanted the file that you supply. Please help him.

I had this problem too and they emailed me this right back...(I bought second hand off sites too) waited about a week all in all.

You're no burden - This error is common. This issue is due to an incomplete software installation, and has been discussed here: HELP: I keep getting Openflash Manager errors when using the software (uploading new OTS tunes, erasing my uninstalled tablet, etc.)

If you're unable to resolve the issue, please setup a remote login with me, and I'll try to correct the software for you myself:

I can't believe all these posts and only one guy has enlightened the bunch

BPM sport

There is no really truly "easy" way to do this..
as far as my part plugging stuff into the OBD and cycling the ignition on and off that's easy but the other stuff. this is intensive. and catch a snag and screw up this car.. no thanks

All this talk of plugs and coil packs and that's offered on the order sheet when you order at BPM. all your prayers and questions are answered.

and then you're going to get Mike at BPM who is a guru and is gonna hook you up. professional real deal

Thanks to "nothingbutspeed". The information in that post is correct. I did hear back from Shiv a couple of days after that post and he told me the same thing. I went deeper in the computer and found a program that was blocking the file download from fully executing. After I disabled that I was able to get everything loaded to the OFT.

Thanks for everyone for their help. Now I'm anxious to get back to the car to see what the tune does.

Unfortunately I am in WI and the car stays in CA. I won't be back out there to drive it until Mid December. I will report back when I get everything installed.

So I am back where the car is and got a chance to load the OpenFlash tune. I promised an update when I was able to install it. My observations:

1. OMG!!!!!!!!! The power and torque generated is unbelievable!

2. I am running the Stage One V1.1 91 Octane tune. Air filter upgrade and charcoal filter delete but everything else is stock.

3. The power delivery for regular everyday driving is much smoother than it was pre-tune. Prior to the tune it seemed to me that the power delivery was "touchy" and required finessing to not jostle passengers. That isn't the case now. It you want the car to be smooth and docile it is.

4. When you are not in a docile mood .... well .... be careful and hang on would be my suggestion! The power and torque generated is brutal. I thought the car was (and is) powerful in its stock form. It is nothing compared to this tune. I can't come up with the proper words to describe the sensation. I have owned and driven some powerful cars previous to this but none with the brute slamming force I am seeing generated with the M5.

5. I would extend a word of caution. This tune does turn the M5 in to a totally different car from a performance aspect. You need to spend some time learning how to apply the power. It is totally manageable, however if you slam your right foot down you could very easily find yourself in a situation that is beyond the skill set of a non professional driver. I keep all traction and "nanny" controls on and even at that the electronic stabilizing effect can't keep up with the power delivery. You can easily find yourself in a fishtail if you slam the power on at 60 mph.

6. I am playing with control settings and I am finding that if I have the M settings at Sport and the DCT control on the 3rd bar it is a great combination. It is tame and comfortable enough for around town driving but the brute power is lurking right under the surface if you need or want it. Changing the DCT controls seems to make the biggest difference with the speed and force of the power delivery because it holds the shift longer and engages it faster. I don't bother with the paddle shifters. I find that I can't think or react as quickly as the DCT can.

7. The install was simple and straightforward. I updated the OTS unit on my laptop and then plugged it in to my OBD port. Select TUNE and the tune file that you are wanting to overwrite to the ECU and it starts the install. Note that you will get multiple warnings and lights concerning oil levels, tire pressures, reduced power settings etc from the car during the overwrite. The car will tell you that everything in the world is going wrong all at once but I am assuming that is due to the flash memory being erased. At the end of the tune (it took about 20 minutes) everything goes back to normal. I had no issues with the car throwing codes or displaying any warning lights when the process was done. I have driven it about 300 miles and all is well.

OpenFlash is the only tune that I have used so I have nothing else to compare it to. That said, I couldn't be more satisfied with the final results. If you read through this thread you will see that I had some comments and complaints concerning the length of time it took to get a response when I initially requested the tune for my car. Shiv was apologetic for the delay when he contacted me so that matter was resolved to my complete satisfaction. I am happy with what the tune has done to the car.

A warning note about tuning your car. It will TOTALLY unleash the inner power upgrade junkie in you!! I had no intention of doing anything beyond the tune and now I find myself surfing through the posts on exhaust and intake upgrades and thinking that I probably need to do those! LOL

Oh well .... boys and their toys ....
