I have nothing against the C8 other than it looks awkward, but go ahead buy one, i don't really care. i just think buying one because it can lap laguna seca 7/10ths quicker than a 7 is a bit weird.

Nothing weird at all. We all like performance, or at least we say we do. Lap time is one quantifiable performance measure. It’s not everything, but it’s one of a handful of ways to look at performance objectively.

Yep. And then the same guy in the M Coupe at the track would be like "My car is faster" blah blah.

I don't suspect my 1.6 Miata is faster than a Z/28 Camaro (the modern one) just because I got a point-by at the track from an inexperienced driver.

Which is why lap times by professionals matter. Need an equal playing field to be objective. I rest my case.

The C8 0-60 time is about the same as the Ferrari 488. It should mean they should cost the same. Take that logic :-)

The point is, I can't take a new M2 to Willow Springs and match Randy Pobst on time.

Buy what you enjoy. Do you like the way it looks? Feels? Drives? etc. That's more important than the last 1% of performance you can't wring out anyway.

Perhaps you can't wring it out Besides, the difference in Nurburgring lap time between even the slower (than C8) GT350 and M2C is 4.5% 472s ws 450s

My point is same driver in a slightly faster car wins. Better driver in the faster car is gone! Best to be both so you don't have to appreciate the tail lights.

By the way, this is what a real car sounds like to the finely spoiled acoustic devices attached to my head:

Awesome! With which professional race team can I follow your progress? Which written publications do you regularly test and write for?

I had no idea we had a such a badass on the forum!

Wait, did I say I can?? Huh.
Plenty of badasses on this forum. And you're totally right. That last 1% i can't touch. But the last 3 I can. And I do. These are a few year old videos taken in my S L O W 2014 Mustang GT. Yet a '15 Vette and a '17 SS 1LE are on par. Faster car? No. Faster Driver? Hmm.

Let's see you you go faster if you're going to doubt me.

Oh, and a slow ring video for street cred. Due to the slow Porsches of course, and me being a Gentleman. Which is precisely why I couldn't tell you which exact publication you can check out.

Exactly. I should have just bought a damn 392 car instead of spending all this $ on a Hellcat.

If you wanted a first year 2020 and didn’t get a slot already you’re out of luck.

The one that passed you at 1:10 seemed especially slow

That was proper fast. Joking aside, this is the expected result. But to be honest I was far more impressed with the Cupra at 6:32 which left all of us in the dust.

If this is true GM just botched their own launch of the new C8 BIG TIME.

The BIGGEST Corvette dealer in the country just reported that they’ve yet to fill 500 out of 1,172 allocated spots for their 2020 MY allocations. Now all the news channels are reporting 2020 Corvettes are “sold out.” Anyone on the fence and not already with a deposit down is now going to look elsewhere...right to a competitor’s door.

Someone with experience working for Chevy dealership mentioned that dealerships do not have to take allocated spots, as GM has a tendency to build more cars than a dealership can sell, and let dealerships figure out a way to move them. I suspect this executive that said all 2020 C8s are sold out probably mean each allocation has been confirmed by dealerships. Because a number of large national dealers are still taking deposits for 2020 Corvettes as of right now.

If MacMulkin still has nearly 800 allocations unspoken for, I wouldn’t be TOO worried that you can’t get a C8 Corvette reserved today. Of course, with the boomers not knowing how to actually look up what’s real and what’s fake news, I wouldn’t be surprised if rate of deposit slows down with national media picking up this “news.”

Seems the MT link I posted was fake news and they're not all sold out.

I'm sure people can still get a C8 & will be able to once they hit lots as well...just like all Corvettes before the C8. If not, GM messed up big time IMO

GT500 vs C8 track Comparison
https://www.motortrend.com/cars/chev...ck-comparison/

So predictably the C8 has better handling than the base GT500 but gets pulled in on the straights times were apparently quite equal but not listed. The Gt500 with Carbon Fiber Track with super wide MPSC2 tires, carbon wheels and upgraded suspension, brakes wings ect. Package easily beats the C8 however

VIR Times:
Gt500 CFP 1:59.68
C8 2:00.96

Interesting. Oddly, if it existed, i'd like a GT350 with the GT500 transmission.

Wow, that is actually a really quick time at VIR for the base C8. Full 2sec quicker than C7 Z51 at VIR(same layout).

Essentially a $67k 1LT C8(Z51/Mag) is capable of same time.

GT500 with track pack is a $100k mustang, that thing better be quick.
