First of all, I echo the sentiment that this question has been asked and answered more that than any other - even "what color" or "How much oil" threads.

This is not a $3700 option for you. You are leasing the car with a 61% - clearly inflated - residual, so you are only bearing 39% of the cost of the option. Doing the math in my head, that is $1,500 amortized over the lease. In a 36 month lease, that will cost you about $42/month (probably closer to $45 with the finance charge). So the relevant question is whether this is worth $45/month (or whatever that number is when added to your specific lease).

Words of wisdom.

Some good sword fights between HK and B&O here, thought I'd bring this old thread up.

Yes I had a similar dilemma and in the end I opted for a quite basic Focal system including a 2 channel amp from the same brand. It’s not anything impressive or the best audio I had but it’s much better compared to the base system my M5 came with. I paid £1600 and had to get back to the installer couple of times to adjust the amplifier to my liking. I guess it’s a very subjective topic as each person have different opinions but generally speaking the M5 is not a quiet car especially when driving in the motorway. Personally I did not want to spend more money than I had to. Perhaps if I were driving a super insulated 7 series luxury sedan I would have invested, but not on the M5
