The sports saloon I'm most excited about - Porsche Mission E

The Porsche Mission E. The spy shots suggest it is going to be fantastic. I liked the concept, but realistically that concept had little interior space. This on the other hand looks great. Very sexy shape, low, sleek, and modern. Notice the exhaust tips are totally fake. I suspect those will be deleted in production trim and are part of the disguise. Look at the tires. They are wide. This isn't just some eco-rocket like the Tesla. It looks like it will be very fast in the corners since it is supposed to be lighter than Tesla and have wider tires, plus probably the famous Porsche chassis control.

I'm going to call the dealer and put down a deposit this week.

Have you heard/read if this is a 100% EV, or does it have a ‘range extender’ option?

TIA,

Bish

It is 100% EV. No range extender. No fuel at all. Just electricity. Which is the right choice. I think cars like the i3 and i7 are complete junk. They have the high CoG of a petrol car, with the added weight of a battery, and because they try to save weight the engine is tiny resulting in cars that have little competitive merit.

I like full electric (tesla, Mission-E), performance hybrid (e.g. NSX, Panamera Turbo S) or petrol (TTS, E63S, M5). Those are all good.

Really looking forward to this car. First time an all electric has peaked my interest.

My plan was to wait for the F90 M5 CP to come out but this just threw a wrench in the whole thing.

Have you driven an NSX yet? If so, your thoughts? Especially in comparison to your TT. They certainly aren’t selling and apparently you can obtain large discounts. Not really read a bad press review either.

Stealth, I don't know which I am excited about more, the Mission E car itself or the Level 5 800volt charging system that Porsche is developing for it. As an electric vehicle owner for 6 months now, I know the value of being able to fast charge. I think everything that Porsche is doing here is going to be awesome. Even the starting price of the Mission E is going to be great!

As much as I dissent about the F90 M5, if it came down to only being able to own either the Mission E or the F90 M5 I would have to choose the F90 M5. But if I could own both, then I would definitely get both. Or in some other cases, Porsche fans could own lets say a 911 GTS and then get a Mission E for the daily driver duty.

Good marketing strategy but in real life we are long way from seeing those charging stations, and you won't be able to install one of those at your average home either.

Also what Porsche is not telling you (and Tesla) is fast charging meant the battery also degrades faster. They only want you to use those super fast charging station for road trips, it's not meant for everyday use.

Of course if you lease the car, then it doesn't really matter if the battery degrades. My point is they don't tell you the whole story.

My buddy has his name on the list, dealer says he should expect the car sometime in 2019 or early 2020. I'm tempting to order one because the size looks right to me. Although no pricing info has been discussed, they seem pretty sure about it'll be around $100k +/- (canadian dollar)

I never like any EV but this time it's a Porsche product so maybe it'll change my opinion about EV. We'll see.

Just saw this, this morning from a Facebook update on the new Mission E. It's been posted that the started price will be about the same as a base Panamera, for about $85k, which will probably mean the 402hp version. That's still pretty awesome I think. Also the 2 speed transmission will give this Porsche electric car immense range. I'm guessing over 400 miles of range at least. This car is looking better and better!

Those range estimations are just that, estimations under ideal circumstances (like no wind, set speed). I never get anywhere close to the advertised range on my Tesla P100D, it's usually about half.

With the way I drive (which is heavy foot), I get about 150 miles on my P100D.

Have same issue with my petrol gas tank.

As I have guessed it, you won't get to charge your Porsche 80% in 15-20 min. unless you live some where near their supercharging station and can access it (and right now there is only one at Porsche's Atlanta HQ).

Battery technology is held by a few companies in the world (most notably Panasonic) so everyone's battery is pretty much the same. The only difference is the charging voltage but in which it is more infrastructure dependent rather some kind of unique Porsche technology.

We are still a long way from being able to access these kinds of charging speed at home.
