I wonder if it's related to fuel starvation for those experiencing the issue at WOT or hitting the speed limiter (i.e. running out of injector capacity or fuel pump flow). The same error appears to happen when people run out of gas as well.

I think it's a horsepower threshold error. The ECU probably has a limit and once it reaches the limit it throws the code. Remapping allows the threshold to be set higher. Either that or I'm talking out of my ass but it seems about right. But luckily these DT malfunctions never put the car in limp mode. At least for me. And it [usually] only happens when you decide it's time to drive the car like you stole it. At least for me, lol. Once you restart the car it just resets itself so it's not a big deal.

I have catless down pipes, resonator delete, and BMS tune. I had it happen 1 time when it was stock. And 2 times In a row with all those mods. So 3 times total.

I think its a turbo related pressure leak causing the safe mode to activate. This was a familiar story with the infamouse N54 engines.

I've gotten it a few times. Last time was passing a C6 Vette in the mid 14Xs. No limp mode. Message got my attention though.

I had it happen to me under hard acceleration on the freeway. Car would stutter between 3-5000 rpm and then throw DT malfunction. Turned out to be injectors, coil pack and spark plug for cyl 6.

Stock. Got it once just cruising at 60MPH but went away seconds later. Second time, put the car in limp mode, but a software update seemed to fix that.

Most people seem quite nonchalant about this issue...I hope there are no long term effects on the drivetrain after numerous DT malfunctions...

Me too. Just had DinanTronics installed three days ago, but I had less than a quarter tank of gas. At Shell as we speak. Barely got here. Car is locked. Waiting to see what happens.

Dinan is working on a fix. They have a car with same symptoms coming in to the shop soon.

Do any of you guys with the Dinan and getting dtm have their intake as well ? They sent me some new 3d printed bits to test in the intake thinking that may be the issues but it did not solve the DTm.

Great poll..I think it's interesting that non flashed / stock cars are getting the dtmal. Could we break down the poll to see who has had issues with a piggyback versus a flash tune? Might give some interesting results.

Unfortunately I can't change the poll unless the mods can do something ??BUt the poll came out before a real tune was in use. So one can assume that 95% are piggy back to this point. Going forth not so much.

Some of the stock dtm may be due to low fuel.

I can't see how this would cause it. The engine shouldn't know when you're low on fuel just when you're out, no? The poll seems so sporadic, although more DTMs with tuned cars. The problem is that dozens of things can lead to this fault, I would be interested in seeing the what the different causes were for each fault once they were diagnosed at the dealer. We have everything from filters to coils here on stock cars. I just don't know what that means with respect to tuned cars.

Mine are misfires when I am@ WOT around 130-160mph. In order to do any speed runs over 130 I can only use 2/3 peddle or I get the dtm.

Many have reported dtm with 1/4 tank and driving hard. Maybe a slight interruption in fuel delivery ?? Don't know has not happen to me.

From the poll, there is some correlation between tune/piggyback and malfunction.

For stock, 51 vs 16

For those with tune, 13 vs 6
