M5 F90 or 911 4S 991.2 ?... and why?

Greetings all,

I know that I am kind of comparing between 2 cars with different personalities.

But I am interested to get some insights why any of you would pick either one of them... ?

Pls feel free to share any objective facts or even emotional reasons.

Thanks for your responses in advance ?

I cant really say as the F90 is not out here in the US. Ive driven a 991.2 2S and 4S and they both feel really strong with the new 3.0 turbo engine. The handling and steering is very balanced with great chassis feel and grip with the suspension.

But they are 2 different cars and I doubt anyone here has any F90 seat time yet so the question will be more along the lines of answers via supposition.

I can tell you the 911 will keep its value better as well as handle better than the M5.

I can offer some perspective while trying not to be too objective between the two cars.

I sat in the F90 M5 yesterday. It was for the most part pretty nice. Very comfortable. The new B&W is fantastic. I found out yesterday while seeing the F90 in person that the car is officially about 33lbs lighter than the F10 M5, which means yes it's still a heavy car, about 4,400lbs.

I haven't driven the F90 M5 yet but from what I've seen I'm determining that it's performance is going to be pretty close to the new E63 AMG, which coincidentally I sat in yesterday as well. These new AWD Super Sedans can handle well and have great usable performance from 0-60 for every day situations.

I can probably tell you, that you will probably never reach the actual lateral handling limit in both the .2 Porsche C2S/C4S nor in the F90 M5 on the street. With that said, it really just comes down to personal style and if you would rather be super comfortable in the F90 with lots of space to haul stuff or transport people in super comfort, or if you just want to look cool in a car with a prancing horse on the hood? Lol!

Personally if I were in the market for either of these cars, I'd get the F90, it's just far more versatile. And if I were gonna get any current .2 911, I'd get the new 911T with a Manual Transmission, now that's a P-Car that will give you an experience you'll never get in an F90. Oh yeah and I saw the new 911T in person yesterday too, as well as the new GT2RS while we're on the subject.

Just trying to help.

If I didn't need the backseats, it would be a run away from the 991. Lighter, more athletic, feels better engineered and extremely detailed and the GIAC tune on these things really make great power.

Thanks all for sharing your insights and input.

I think it is time give the Porsche a try after own BMW twice in a row.

Yet, I believe M5 will always has a sweet spot in my heart and mind.

The F10 doesn’t hold a candle against the 991tt and I don’t expect the F90 to either.

Do you need a 4 door car?

If not then get a used 911 Turbo S - that's the best car you can buy for $130k.

If you need a 4 door car then rethink why you posted this question.

Agree with Stealth if you don’t need 4 doors Turbo S all day, and twice on Sunday.

My vote is still for a 911T. You can't get a Manual on a 911TT.

how exactly? the f10 is much faster has more usable space for people and belongings. more comfortable too. looks id say the porsche takes it but both look great inside and out. if you claim that the porsche js the better track tool then ya it is better in that aspect but if you want to risk crashing a 140k car go ahead. id rather have an f10 and money left over for dedicated track toy.

I have both... in fact I have a 1200hp M5 and a 700hp 911tt. I love both cars, but when it comes to handling and overall drivability I choose the 911tt. I race both... AutoX for the 911tt and just straight line races for the M5.

My M5 walks a Bugatti Veyron so it obviously obliterates the 911tt from a roll (well after 60 when I get traction), but the overall quickness and agility of the 911tt is just superb!

i really think the only thing these cars have in common is the price. Two totally different beasts.

I would vote used TTS for the money. Some great deals on 14's out there.

Yes and a stock vs stock 991.1 TT-S will walk an M5 from a dig and to the quarter. The M5 will give the TT-S a run from 100 to 200 as parasitic loss dives into the AWD system of the P car.

The 991.2 will not have a problem with the M5 up much higher speeds.

My 991.1tt non-S ran a 168 in the 1/2 with just a tune.... takes a LOT for an M5 to hit that.
