Same symptoms i had, when in sport plus it became excessive. Only thing for me was that when i made the switch to 5W50 it actually went away. Have you checked the pcv breathers?

Wouldn't some burn be actually good? I'm thinking that as long as you keep it topped up you have "fresher" oil. Any thoughts?

I mean for me, and as some are reporting, its a bit too excessive especially under WOT. That can be very nerve rattling for most. I know i slightly crapped my pants first time I saw huge cloud of smoke behind me, first time i ever pushed it hard.

It's the DP's gentleman. If you are going to have DP's on your car then you can expect some smoke. That's Period. I put DP'S on my engine at 3500 miles, basically brand new and it smoked. Fresh oil really helps if you have DP's. That's the only thing that helps mine. I have around 10,000m on it now and no change. Sea Foam and fresh oil. Temporary fix but it works. The other alternative is to put factory converters back on.

I agree but it's the smoke itself coming from a BMW is what bothers me

I do agree somewhat with this. Mostly any turbo that is catless smokes some. Only difference is when i first got my car it was smoking a lot, which was concerning, and as i mentioned prior. Almost 99% went away after i switched oil weight. Call it lucky i guess, as some have not had the same luck.
