That sucks ... but I hope the meter maid who did that realizes now that the ticket she wrote you has no legal basis because the car is registered elsewhere. She had no jurisdiction ... so you (assuming it was you) didn't have to do a damn thing except throw the ticket away.

With the exception of government pool vehicles and diplomatic registrations, license plates are mandated by states, not the Feds. And D.C. is not the Feds.

I'm not saying that I ever had a front licence plate on any of my vehicle. I'm just saying that it will soon be legal. You wait long enough everything will be legal.

I haven't had one on any car since 1994! Pulled over exactly twice because of it, and have yet to receive a citation.

Yeah, it was a crock of $hit. The DC cops don't even write tickets for no front plate. I did ignore the damn ticket. But around that time, I was just put in the process to get my security clearance. So I had to pay the damn fine.

One of many reasons I hate DC. They're always crying for money but don't look at themselves as the biggest source of financial mismanagement. Every time I have to go into DC, I feel this constant tugging. It's DC trying to pick my pocket for every dollar I have.

ETA: Oh and I went through the appeals process. And of course the ticket was upheld.

The Police like cars with a front tag bc it makes for a really easy target when shooting laser at you. The tags reflective area is very good for laser speed enforcement. Without a front tag & with DRL its much harder for the laser to get a lock on the car's speed. Dramatically reducing the laser's range to the target car.

They take front and rear photos so not having a front plate doesn’t preclude them from identifying you.

Ahh, but it does, the sun may cause a glare at a certain angle, or you might have a bike rack like me, etc. They throw out lots of violations for lack of clear pictures, but don’t think for a minute that they aren’t trying to maximize their ability to get something.

Even when they get rid of the front plate in Ohio I bet they won’t lower the cost to renew plates.

Honestly all it does is take away an easy pc for cops to pull you over. They will just need to work harder.

They already said they won't change the cost to the people in Ohio and put the cost benefit at $1.4 million per year which is minimal when you consider there are almost 12 million people in Ohio. The benefit is so low because of how rarely you get new plates and how cheap they really are to make. I think this will save each person in Ohio about 12 cents a year.

I know I have had my plates for at least 12 years now.

Front plate ticket is no longer a fix-it-ticket in CA. its just a straight up fine, and an excuse to pull you over and check for other violations (test pipes).

As someone who lived in NJ for most of his life, and then moved to Florida a few years ago...

I enjoy not having an inspection anymore and I really enjoy not having a front plate!!

Missouri requires a front plate, but I haven't run one in over 20 years. I've been pulled over or ticketed exactly ZERO times for it during that time period. I'll never mess up the beautiful front end of my BMWs with some ugly plate, and I'm sure as hell never drilling holes!

I just signed a petition for Ontario

I love how one of the naysayers is a provincial police chief is saying that he see absolutely NO reason to do away with the front license plates...

Uhhh how about its such an ugly deviation from my beautiful front bumper's aesthetic lines!

In Illinois and never had a front plate on my M cars in 14 years and 120,000 miles of driving.
Only one ticket five years ago, showed up with a picture of my "temporary" plate and got the ticket waived.
No way I am putting on a front plate on the gts.
I also agree with Dackelone's comment about laser enforcement: harder to get caught due to the lack of reflective area of the plate. Definitely an additional benefit.

I wish it was like that here in Missouri. some of these small rural towns are just traps if you have dark tint or no front plate on your flashy car.

Luckily having a beater gets around that problem and I can keep my m3 without a plate.
