Fed up with my B&O...rattles

Hi guys, I don't know how to handle this. I love the sound quality of the B&O, thats not the issue here. What I cannot endure anymore is under certain low frequencies when it's turned up, I get rattles coming from the door speakers and the worst is coming from the center speaker in the dash. It's horrendous at times.

What I find the most disconcerting is the fact that is that I paid $3700 for this option and it's appears that they were more concerned with aesthetics over quality control. I know if I got into a friends car and heard that, and found out how much he paid for that option I would laugh at him and tell him he got shafted.

My two options are to just deal with it, or bring it to the dealers attention. I don't know what to expect. Will they change out the front speaker?

Is anyone else experiencing this same problem?

I have not heard any rattles like you described from my B&O system. I would absolutely take it in.

Like I said, It's really bad. Stevie Wonder would hear it. I turn it up at times pretty loud, but thats why I got the B&O. I've had many cars with factory upgraded sound systems and have never experienced anything like this. Don't get me wrong, aside from vibration rattles, it's great, but this is a problem.

I feel you brother, it is annoying at times!

The center speaker is a known issue that BMW nor B&O does not have a fix for. It even occurs on the 550i's and 650i's. I've never heard of rattling coming from the door speakers though. I have the rattling/buzzing coming from both of my B-Pillars though, right where the seat belts go into the them. This was a buzzing that was no present when I first bought the car. I've already told my SA about it, and she said that they'll look at it the next time I bring it in for service, which will be soon as I am due for an oil change.

One thing I did find out, albeit by accident, is that while the Bang & Olufsen is turned on and the center speaker is popped up, you can actually physically push the center speaker back down with your hand. I found this out while I was cleaning my windshield and had the B&O center speaker in the up position. At first I was like OH CRAP! But then I realized that the stereo system didn't turn off and that the car did not explode. I can't say whether or not this is good for the little motor that makes it move up and down, but what I did do was try to replicate the rattling/buzzing that comes from the center speaker while playing music at certain frequencies or at very loud volumes, with the center speaker in the down position. SO FAR as I could tell the buzzing did not come back. So this could be a possible Do It Yourself solution, but don't blame me if the little motor on your center speaker breaks, lol! Only thing I can suggest is to try it yourself.

Ahhhhhhhh HA!! I will try this. The door speakers or the vibration I am hearing from my flank is hardly a issue. It's that bastard center channel. It looks cool, but I'd rather hear clear sound. I'm lowering it this Saturday and I will have to bring it into the dealer for alignment afterwards so I will certainly discuss it will the service manager. This is a serious problem in my opinion.

What really pisses me off is in my wife's ML350 she's got the Harmon Kardon that was $750.00 I believe and it really sounds awesome....and no rattles. Not cool BMW.

Didn't they tell you that each of the 9 speaker covers on the B&O costs $400 dollars because they are made out of kryptonite and that's why the system costs $3,700. Lol!

I'm sorry that the B&O is not working out for you - maybe take it to a auto-audio specialist to have them figure out how to eliminate the rattles?

I'll probably get flamed for this but IMO, B&O is just a European BOSE - mostly marketing hype and aesthetics, which the consumer is paying for over true quality of materials and overall product.

No offense to current B&O owners, this is just my opinion.

I also have no rattles from my B&O. I was pleasantly surprised because I used to get a speaker rattle on the base Logic 7 audio in my 550i, so the B&O has been much better.

I noticed it only after changing my exhaust/intake. I tried to see if it was loose and found nothing. My buddy didn't know better and pushed the center speaker down. After that I haven't noticed it again. Not sure how that fixed it but its gone.

As for sound quality it's a huge improvement over the stock. My buddy has the stock and I can tell a big difference in clarity and bass. Hopefully yours goes away soon too. It was very annoying.

I guess it's hit or miss or maybe some are not listening to the same types of music at the volume I have. I do not have my bass set very high. Also, it does not do it all the times, but for that once and awhile you get a particular song with low end frequencies it will rattle a lot.

I am pleased with the B&O but i am inclined to agree with MsportDC. IMO I've heard other systems that are pretty damn good for a lot less money. No matter what, no one should be experiencing this problem in a car that costs over 100 grand and you pay 3700 for this option.

no rattles on mine, and i have volume up loud enough to not hear engine. EQ bass settings up as well as bass level probably +2-3 from neutral.

I thought the center console speaker is just a tweeter and not a larger driver?

Ah true. Stevie couldn't see it but he'll prolly tell you exactly where and what is causing it.

Now if Hellen Keller hears it, different story...

I avoided the B & O upgrade for a number of reasons. Price to performance was the primary reason and the rising dashboard speaker was an easily anticipated problem waiting to happen. The problem with B & O speaker performance and speaker rattles are not a surprise.

Glad I don't have any problems with my B&O system but pure pleasure -- no rattling, no undue vibration nor sound breaking even when turned on to ear shuttering sound levels (tried it several times on coaxing from friends wanting to find out how loud it can get).

Come to Australia where they will sting you 14,000 Aussie dollars for the B&O.

Thats because your useless government feels it deserves several times more money from a B&O purchase than the dealer, manufacturer and parts supplier combined.

I have 2 B and O systems (F13 and F10 M cars) and no rattles, thank you Jesus, yet.

Anyone who paid more for the system out of the country is welcome to move to the US. We have a liberal entrance policy. Trust me I live in California
