Windshield Replacement

A big rock hit my windshield friday. The dealer quoted me $2200 and keep my car for two days. Insurance GEICO will only cover up to $954 (minus my deductible)which is Safelites price for the solar,HUD, lane departure, etc etc.

I want the OEM however not to keen on paying an extra $1200 as its my DD and I'm on the interstate a lot and could happen again next week

Does anyone have experience with Safelite or non OEM windshield? Any effect on the HUD? Also any effect on lease turn in if it was to make it through the next 18 months without replacing again?

Thanks in Advance

I figured someone had this issue in the regular 5-series forum. Good luck with the repair.

I had my windshield replaced through Geico. At first they tried to repair it, because it was very minor. But the repair did not do the job so they replaced. The company that did it was JN Phillips Auto Glass. I told them I only want OEM. They ran it by Geico and replaced it a few days later. I remember the charge being around 1200 to Geico. But ether way, I am not sure why Geico is capping you at $1000... maybe it's different policies by state.

That's odd. I have Geico and had the same issue early last year. They covered the full amount less my deductible.

I hope they decide to cover the whole amount for the windshield.

Update: went by a different dealer this morning And got a quote for $1500 installed. After another argument with GEICO still won't pay! (But anyway good news so less out of pocket for me if I go this route) GEICO told me that I can get OEM from Safelite if they can get it but they won't pay over the aftermarket amount.

After a nice conversation with a very helpful lady at Safelite apparently they can get the OEM BMW glass and its actually about $20 cheaper than aftermarket and she said OEM is what they typically install. When I ask why it was less for OEM she said they because of the HUD lane departure rain sensing etc it was very uncommon so they don't make many of them

Now as long as GEICO doesn't say they will only pay for aftermarket even though it's more expensive I should be good.

FWIW the dealer told me they use a third party installer do the install anyway (probably Safelite but wouldn't say lol)

Hopefully this helps someone in the future

I have Amica, the full windshield coverage is a few bucks a month for ZERO deductible / covered @100% OEM replacement. They even had safelite come to the house to repair it. The full price for the replacement was only $1174(billed to insurance). Just call safelite direct.

Thanks but GEICO doesn't offer this on glass it's under the comprehensive apparently depends on state, to go zero deductible on glass you have to go zero deductible on comprehensive. I will be changing insurance companies anyways after this.

I have Statefarm. When I needed a windshield insurance kept saying they won't pay for oem and I'll have to pay the difference. Safelite said the difference was $200. I was pissed but went with oem anyway, prepared to pay the difference. Cc statement came and only charged me the deductible without the extra $200.

Moral- do it thru safelite they can only charge maximum deductible on insurance claim.

Or pay out of pocket then send bill to agent they'll reimburse less deductible.

Hope it works out for you.

For those that got it through insurance (I have Geico). Did it count against you in terms of having a claim that can potentially increase your rates?
