Windshield replacement suggestion
Hi all, got a cracked windshield on a 2014. I'm in Canada and got a quote from the dealer for replacement. My car is the non comp package. HUD needs a special glass and rain sensor also will need to be replaced. So all in all
1 51-31-7-333-831 GREEN WINDSHIELD 1 976.50 976.50 1 2 51-31-7-203-121 COVER, WINDSHIELD 1 56.88 56.88 1 3 51-31-7-288-462 BUMP STOP CLIP 11 8.05 88.55 1 4 61-35-9-389-454 SENSOR RAIN/LIGHT 1 363.00 363.00 1 Plus another $350 for labour. So all in include tax will run me $2073 cad Any suggestions? Is this the most expensive way to go if I want my car fixed properly? Appreciate any Canadian m5 owners suggestions. Thanks

Ya. I want OEM for sure just not sure if there is a cheaper way...
Most parts are common to the regular F10 except for the glass has a special coating for HUD, which cost more. Do you guys pay this much for windshield replacement, for those of you that did it? :s

One thing for sure,....windshield glass on modern day cars is "sooo" freak'n soft! It seems that the easiest pebble will crack it and send one to the dealer or to Safelite! On the bright side,...I've seen a rumor on the net where auto windshields may one day be made from Gorilla glass. If so, it has my vote,...the sooner the better.

I had to have my E60 windshield replaced. I called a company called Safelite and they had to order BMW glass as they didn't have HUD compatible. I believe they charged the insurance company ~$1200USD total. He did it in the parking lot in about 30 minutes. I watched him, quite an operation but he made it look easy. He did a great job and I didn't have any problems such as air or water leaks.
