So I've been wanting to add boost actuated exhaust cutouts to my car for a while now. I couldn't bring myself to cut up my virgin comp exhaust in case I want to go back to stock so I've been looking for another center section or full exhaust that I could experiment with. Found a full Borla cat back system for cheap on this forum so I snagged it up. $800 and local too. Next I got a pair of 3 inch ProFlow cutouts and a couple 3 inch band clamps.

I made some little turn downs to try and direct the exhaust down as much as possible.

Found the borla flange at the downpipe to be significantly less restrictive than the factory. I used a snap gauge to get down in there and take a measurement. Probably more gains in this than from having the cutouts open.

It's pretty rowdy. I do have downpipes on it too. I'll work on getting some sound clips up. The valves open at 5-6psi so they will start to crack really quick with how these cars make boost so fast.

The valves crack open quickly is what I was getting at. It doesn't take much throttle to get the valves open. I did make a bypass button that actuates a solenoid to prevent boost from getting to the valves. Mounted the button in the cigarette lighter hole in the cup holder.

I appreciate that. I wanted to tuck everything in as tight as possible for ground clearance and clean look.

Nice! I've wanted something like this since I got the car, but didn't even know it existed. How exactly do the solenoids function? What is involved, outside of the welding?

The solenoid is a simple on off valve for airflow. Most people just use a simple electronic boost controller hooked to a latching bottom or switch. I used a evap vent solenoid I had sitting around. It's nice because it only pulls 1/2 an amp. If you go to loudvalves website they have a setup you can buy. Beyond that the fabrication is a little tricky but I have a tubing contour gauge that helps a lot. It helps you transfer the shape of the pipe onto the section you are cutting in. An exhaust shop could do it for but it would be mig welded not tig.

Very clean install, I was considering something like this, but I would fail inspection super quick with this new Camera system we have in my state.

The video doesn't show how loud it really is. I need to record some better runs that I am on throttle longer. I'll try one from inside the car too.

Thanks! It makes some wild bangs on the shifts for sure. It’s nice to be able to get violently loud at the push of a button. I went under the car the other day to make sure nothing had melted from the heat. All looks perfect. I think the turn downs direct the heat straight at the ground so it’s all good.

That's super cool, I love that remote button!! I have cut outs also on my akrapovic evolution titanium system and it was hard to finally cut the back section.lol but it didn't come out as clean as yours cause the stainless steel cut outs can't weld to titanium without a special argon gas welder.. all slip joints with clamps ,so I titanium heat wrapped all the joints to seal from any leaks. but the sound is worth it. cheers!!

That’s bitchin. Post up some pics. Interested to see the setup. I’d also have a hard time cutting up an $8000 exhaust. Did you use electric cutouts?
