I don't want to start another thread Dave so Ill just post my review here, very short- super short- cliff notes style LOL:

I test drove the new M3 today. I was able to enjoy it in dig to 60 runs and then some more aggressive freeway pulls. I did not get a chance to push it hard in super sharp lower speed corners but I did get to run over triple digits and into what I would say are higher speed "bends".

The interior to me is nothing outstanding- as expected for a 76k msrp car. I didn't get to play around with the Nav or electronics as I just went to sport plus for all options except the steering (I find sport plus creates too much understeer here) and I had drivelogic at the 3 bar max plus MDM mode. The leather was supple and the seats firm and supportive.

I liked the opening throttle response from a dig- very M like in nature with its touchy feel and quick engagement. From a 5 mph roll in the car is quick to 60 but its no M5 quick or M6 quick IMHO. You can feel the lack of tq compared to its bigger brother and where I really noticed it was on roller at 60 to about 118 mph. The car does take longer to get to that speed; but don't get me wrong, this is expected since the car has less hp. It felt stable though and as mentioned prior "nimble" too. The car was very ..... M3 like with an evolution in motor and suspension tweaks. The turbos had minimal to zero lag and the DCT shined as expected. When I was nearing 120mph and there was a decent bend on the expressway I could feel myself wanted the more stable F10 or F13 but the chassis was stable enough and I felt confident. Im sure that car is even better in the sharp and twisties as my tour was more of a GT cruiser type of test drive.

The exhaust was interesting. Cold startup was rather blah- not very aggressive but Im used to something different. As I pushed it up the rpm range it would definitely come alive and it was loud in the cabin for sure (no radio on) and I wonder if there is a sound symposium thru the speakers??? Maybe someone can answer this because it was loud- louder than the M5 or M6 stock for sure and even louder than my M6 with the Meisterschaft axle back. I liked the sound but only under load and there was no barks or burbles which I have become accustomed to with my 991C4S, C63BS, RS7, SL63...etc.

So was it fantastic?? Ehhh but I also didn't think the C4S was fantastic on first runs so Ill reserve my thoughts for another drive and one with the M4 too. I'd say based on what I read here that my thoughts echo most and I was hoping to say certain parts blew me away in the drive; but they didn't. I did see the car as I drove up as it was outside (then it was moved inside and then outside for my drive) and it caught my eye. Its a very good looking car and the stance is strong and aggressive for a 4 door compact car.

I owned an E46 and E92 M3 and this is better of course but I am not sure its better than what they were when they were released. Id argue based on what's out there currently that choices today as an alternative are excellent though.

I liked it but I didn't really love it and at 10k over msrp I definitely was just going to test drive it and not negotiate further. Oh I liked the F Type R coupe better too.

Vic, excellent cliff notes buddy!

Yeah like I said in another post, the M4 is the car you'd LIKE to drive, but the Jag is the car that you'd LOVE to drive.

'Nough said.

Oh but I was her first- especially to exceed 100mph. I believe the other miles were "tip in only".

Let's play a little game, "Just the tip."

We really need more emoticons for innuendos on this forum.

I know its just an "asking" number but since they start high they wont finish low. I generally pay invoice or close to it or even back of cost depending on my contacts. Since this was their only one, I wouldn't dare waste my time asking for 1k or 2k off msrp because I did not feel the car was worth that.

Vic, are you shopping around for SLS? I was in Fletcher Jones last week to see a friend of mine working there. I saw they had two 2012 SLS. one with 2k mile and another 16k mile and they were so gorgeous. They had priced the first one for 169 and the second one for 140. All of a sudden, something inside me asked me to give them a try to be "Stablemate" (haha I'm using your words) of M6.
I asked my friend but he said no! he said the new SLS is coming with new engine; with that said, if you are interested in SLS, I think you have to wait

Not always true put a 911ts or RS7 (they are pretty much mash and go) in the hands of a not so great driver vs a great driver in an M5

Great reviews, I saw a SSII M3 with full red leather. The full leather without a doubt enhances the interior feel of the M3. A must have for anyone thinking about buying. If not for the full leather, the interior is pedestrian at best.

Oh I was just perusing LOL--- The SLS is a very cool but depreciating bucket just like the MP4-12C.

Dave, BMW of SS just got a M4, do you want to go compare it to their M3 for us? Its white on 18s. The side wall on the rear tires is huuuuuuge.

Just as comparison, the auto express reported 1:09:90 for M4 and 1.12.2 for Jag. the same driver, the same track, but yes of course different days that may affect the results
I was just watching an Auto Express review on the M4 vs the RS5 and noticed that the 1.12.2 for the Jag was the V6?? I couldn't fine an F type R Coupe number....

lol... the video I posted is convertible V8 but the link you posted is V6!
on that video (post #145 of this thread) it's V8 495 HP (however for some reason I thought it's 550...my bad ), 1665kg... look at 3:38.
it's interesting and that's why I said I can't rely on numbers reported by journalists
