Carly for BMW App for Coding
Hey Guys,
One of my BMW buddies introduced me to the Carly for BMW app which makes coding your BMW super easy. From the looks of the reviews it looks like there are folks with both bad and good experiences. Since we had great success coding my M5, I decided to spend the $150 for the connector and app so we can code 3 cars. It made sense since there are local guys who want to code our cars for 60 bucks for only a handful of features. Have any of you guys tried this route for coding? I'll report back my experience once I do it this weekend. But just curious to see if anyone has used it. |

All you need is E-Sys (free software), ENET cable ($15 on Amazon), and a laptop to code your car.
You can code many more features than mycarly will do.

I've gone through the same learning curve. Just research and take your time, that's what I have done and have coded my F02 and M5 myself.
It's really hard to fxck it up unless you are just pushing buttons and doing random shxt. There are plenty of coding spreadsheets which tell you exactly which files to change within each CAFD file within each ECU. For the guy that wants a plug n play answer with minimal risk, the mycarly is probably the answer. Although you will not be able to do everything E-Sys can when it comes to coding.

After reading their website looks like the things I have wanted to do are covered. What were you referring to that you can't do with Carly? |

You just have a lot more control over what can be done with E-sys. If you want to spend more on Carly + Adapter and it offers what you want done, go for it. For me, there was no question on which route to go.

Totally agree!! Coding it yourself, you have a lot more options, and from the link you sent its so freaking cheap!!! I wish I was more confident in my skills!! As for the Carly for BMW app, you can only code what they have available. It also seems like their support suck. Only reason why I bought it is bc it looked so easy. I'm going to code my car in a few hours. Will report back soon. |

I have Pro App with all features unlocked, but no adapter so I can only get so far in the interface. I have already been coding for a few years with E-sys and am confident in my abilities on all chassis, including the new G-series (G11/ G12/ G30). So, I do not see myself investing in a $60 adapter. But, looking forward to your impressions after using software. |

Hey Guys, I had about 45 mins to play around with the app so here's my first impression.
Easy to use. Plug in, connect to the wifi via the app on the iphone, back up the data, and away you go. From my limited time on the Carly app I was able to access CAS, KOMBI, FRM, and PDC. For some reason I couldn't access the CIC for the Idrive coding. It showed a message why but I couldn't fully read it. I think this was due to a software update to the idrive that was done. It also worth noting that its an additional 15 bucks if you want to code anything with idrive. I sent an email to support but I'm not holding my breath. The app was 50 bucks and the adapter was 80 bucks. I'm going to play with it some more but if I can't access the CIC menu then I'll return the adapter and take a loss on buying the app. |

After doing some further research it looks like the Carly for BMW app doesn't work for NBT Idrive software which is probably the reason why it didn't work for me. http://support.mycarly.com/knowledge...cc-cic-or-nbt/ Last edited by F10M5SoccerDad; 10-28-2016 at 04:46 PM.. |

I was not able to get into the HKL to code the trunk closing on my car which is a 2014 M5. It say I have to wait a few months for an update to the app to come out. I was able to access the HKL menu my friends 2013 BMW and we were able to code the trunk closing via the keyfob on his car. So i'm going to assume that the works better with the older 2013 cars.

I think they were different. The exact info on the HKL module/menu is hidden from the user when you use the Carly for BMW app.

I've been using Carly Pro for a few years and I'm generally pretty happy with the setup. I really only wanted to code my vehicles so the windows/sunroof will roll up with the fob and the mirrors will fold in. I used it on my E60 M5 and E70 X5 with a generic obd2 adapter. When I moved to my F10 M5 w/CIC, I had to upgrade my obd2 adapter to a Carly unit for $60 off Amazon. The new adapter is nice that is has a little on/off switch and can be plugged in 24/7.
On my CIC F10 M5, it detects 7 modules but the HKL module reads - future enhancement so closing the trunk with fob is not available yet. I like how it backs up your original software and is basically idiot proof. On my CIC F10 M5, I coded the folding mirrors, windows and a few other tweaks like turning on reverse cams as soon as the car detects backwards movement, how long your cams stay on etc. Just small but useful tweaks. Yes you are a little limited but for me, it does what I want. It is not only for coding though and I think it does a good job of reading for faults & CEL codes and has other diagnostic features. As for support, it's excellent, they respond to emails quickly and my software has been updated many times. |

Hopefully they come out with an updated code for the NBT Idrive cars and also the HKL module.
