F10 M5

I am just kicking off my engine re-build process and I intend to share thoughts on the various options out there, R&D, expected results and such. Since I don't own a shop or intend to sell motors (the thought has crossed my mind...) I will be open to the costs for this. I am not getting any sort of special deal, so what I will be paying is what anybody out there will pay.

The build will be on my spare long-block. It will be taken apart next week and the work will begin. The motor will be put in a completely stock vehicle to be broken in and then the fun begins! Power-adder is still in the research phase but getting narrowed down. I have a pretty darn good idea of what works/doesn't work so less experimentation.

The goal is to be able to significantly obliterate my old setup... (yes the 9s one!)

I'm confident you'll make big power, but if you're focusing on 1/4 mile times it seems to me the weak link will be the differential. To be able to hook up immediately at launch with large slicks appropriate for the power will drop your ET more effectively than most anything else. Just something to think about while you're in the engine re-build stage. I'll look forward to your posts and wish you success with the HEAVY BEAST!

You are absolutely correct - we don't quite know the diff failure point but the peripherals around the diff need to be upgraded at a minimum. Those are planned out.

Different capacity? Or sticking with 4.4l? Someone makes a 5.0l kit, pure performance or something

Any thoughts on compound turbos or sequential? Or just a pair of gtx3076r?

Are smaller rear discs planned? So you can fit a smaller rim and bigger drag tires?

Here you go:

Long block is an automotive term for an engine sub-assembly that consists of the assembled block, crankshaft, cylinder head, camshaft (usually), and valve train. A long block does not include fuel system, electrical, intake, and exhaust components, as well as other components (see below for a more complete list).

Not yet - don't need that for 1/2 mile but for 1/4. Depends how bad traction is... and whatelse could break as a result

50K is a bit too much. You can build a motor for $10K onwards. Plus install in the car.

Haven't decided on the turbos. Going to a complete aftermarket means external WG and also means positive-pressure controlled WG's... our boost solenoids control via vacuum. It can be done but more work

You should also look at a rear brake conversion so you can get an 18" slick under ther car. So many good options in an 18". Tires are going to be a limiting factor too.

When I broke diff internals I think it was due to the shock from breaking a half shaft.
