2020 M550i vs M5 F10, do i have a chance ?

Hi all,

So yesterday I was just cruising around in Sport + and did a quick pull under a bridge. Seconds later, a F10 M5 flies by and has clearly had work done to it. His exhaust is much louder, significantly louder pops and bangs and I can hear the turbos spinning up too.

I've heard that a 2020 and up stock M550 would beat a F10 in straight line, but how about one with mods ? .....just curious. I know it depends on how many mods etc.

If we're talking from a dig, the M550i would handily win against an untuned car with the combo of AWD and much better* launch control, although the M5 would start closing the gap as speed builds. It sounds like the M5 is catless and thus a good chance it has a tune. In that case I imagine it would rapidly close the gap and start pulling away sometime after 60 when it gets traction in 3rd.

From a roll the M550i would lose against an untuned M5 by a decent amount and a tuned one would smoke it.


*assuming BMW ever fixed it

F10 M5 is lighter and have more power.
M550 has more torque and AWD.
Rolling and 0-100 mph M5 is winner no doubt.
0-60 M550 is winner…
Ofcourse if both cars are stock!

Any M-Car that's making pops/bangs and turbo whooshing noises, you won't stand a chance against. It could just be a simple stage 2 or it could be a built internals, hybrid turbo, meth injected monster. You just never know.

Stock for stock though the M550i is right in the mix.

0-100kmh. F10 M5 will do 4.2s whereas the M550i will do 3.8s.
100-200kmh. F10 M5 will do 7.7s whereas the M550i will do 8.7.
The 1/4 mile would be a photo finish but after this point the F10 M5 will keep pulling away.

my old lady has a 550ix and with f90 maybe) a little) not always a victory, but it makes you nervous very well)
