I changed out just the small i-drive knob from my '13 to a much larger one, it's nothing special not ceramic or anything with a black chrome look and has orange back lights.
It's nice that I can get my hand on it rather than the finger picky one before.

It is unbelievable how small the pre LCI knobs were I don't blame you one bit lol! I'll probably sell my original one being I don't have a use for it anymore.

Those ceramic knobs aren't cheap and you'll get some reimbursement for what you paid for it.

$1k for a new ceramic knob is insane, I can think of a few other things like a painted roof spoiler, rear diffuser fins and replacement rear tires that would fill that money gap out nicely

Oh most definitely lol! Been sruggling to find someone here that could do a proper alignment/coil over height adjustment (which I could do the height) to fit my new stuff coming in from the sounds of it the toyo tires should be here at the end of this month beginning of next month so I gotta figure something out soon!!

Those 888r's are the grippiest out of the lot and are just about legal, some have said not to do too many launches especially with tuned engines as the diff and its mounting bracket takes more of a hammering with these rear tires fitted.

I was thinking about biting the bullet and buying the billet diff mount from RK. I don’t launch I think I have once since I’ve owned the car but as a precaution I guess.

Don’t quote me on this but it looks like m5Rick put the bigger knob which is a LCI update so I would assume you’d be able to P&P the non ceramic knob and the ceramic knob to your preLCI.

I've read that some of those billets can induce vibration, not sure about the RK one, too aggressive bushings can cause this.
I don't use the launch on mine and just have the BMW techs inspect the standard billet for cracks etc when it goes in for its yearly safety check.

That's right, it was just the old small knob pulled off and the bigger replacement one snicking in following the instructions, plug and play really. My black chrome one is an aftermarket item.

If I understand correctly the RK one uses the oem bushing people were complaining because you can't buy it separately from bmw. But I will definitely dive deeper see what I can figure out before I spend that kind of money!

I was reading "horror stories" of people breaking even at stock power but of course they fail to mention their driving habits..

I've read a few also but one was particularly bad. Four years ago a witness saw some things fall off from beneath an M5 on Freeway 710 before the M5 hit a sign pole killing four people inside, it was going at a fair rate of knots on a curve and it was never said what caused it to do that.

Yeah still some joy, but it's really hard to enjoy it fully in central Massachusetts. Normal roads are 45mph and the interstates are heavily patrolled. So it spends most of its life parked up. The big reason I keep it is it's a manual, but I'd probably still sell it if the right offer was made.

Instead of cops they fit speed cameras here on the London Orbital M way, max 70mph but once you get off its not too bad. Having a good radar detector is a bonus in these times.
