MCB IND Mods I Just Installed...

I just added new side grills which are matte black with MCB mesh on them, front grills with MCB outline and matte black fins, and also replaced the reflectors on the front skirt with MCB inserts. I really like the look (especially now that there is another MCB M5 on town now I can stand out again!) thanks IND.

Hope you like the changes. I too have MCB and contemplated on getting the black front and side grills but after seeing in person the black grill changes that a friend of mine did who also had MCB, I changed my mind. It seems that the black grills go better with light colored car bodies rather than MCB. I saw a light gray and frozen white M5 with those black grills and the effect looked gorgeous and considered that it was much much better than on a MCB. Anyway, to each his own and as long as you like the changes, then that's what counts. Am glad that I got to see face to face an MCB with those black grills before jumping on the changes, otherwise had I done the change, I would have probably regretted it and would have even reverted to the original.

Yeah I didn't like the black outline on the front grills with the MCB so I decided just to match it. I really don't like the chrome so now just need to get the doorhandles and it will be gone. Think my next mod is to add a RPi GTS exhaust, I love the sound of it and I miss it going form the v10 to the turbo.

Agree. IMO MCB only needs 2 mods: larger tips and MCB painted reflectors on the front bumper only.

The body colored grille on this car looks like a cheap plastic molded grille like the kind of crap you would see on a Japanese car. The OEM grille looks like metal as it should be.

But I don't mean to offend. If the OP likes it then that's all that matters.

I disagree with the comment that it looks cheap. I actually think the body colored surround works very well and is in perfect harmony with the radiator grille just below. The radiator surround is obviously body colored and then the sunken mesh grille is black.

With the kidneys, the same effect is obtained with the way that the OP did it. To have the black surround on the kidneys, plus the black grille itself, seems like too much --- especially on MCB for some reason.

Now, all of that said, I agree that on this color, stock is very, very hard to beat and I would likely have kept it stock if it were my car. But this does not look bad at all.

I like it. Good move on the body color surround. I was thinking it was going to look bad when reading your post then I looked at the pic and liked it. Removing the chrome and adding gloss black touches that match your OEM gloss black trim tightens up the whole look of the car and gives it a much sportier look. Everyone has different opinions. You and I just happen to be RIGHT-lol! Very nice.

Thanks everyone know it is a personal opinion thing but hopefully people thinking about some exterior mods can see the different ideas. So the only chrome I have left is the dorr handles. I was thinking matte black to replace the strips. I read sometime back there are replacement handles. Is there any way to just replace the chrome strips? thanks!

I quite disagree. In pictures the black grills especially the side grills look fine, however, upon seeing them in person, they looked too "plasticky" -- perhaps this is where people perceive the grills as looking "cheap". Initially I wanted those black grills but upon seeing them in person made me change my mind. I also asked my female friend who was with me what she thought about the grills, and sure, her first impression was she thought they were made of plastic. Not until I found out in this forum that the black grills are actually black paint over metal. Even though I now know that it is metal, first impressions is what counts and majority of people who first see the grills think they are plastic and I would not want that (having something cheap would make people think of me as being cheap, though not true).
