Removal of rear centre diffuser
Hi all
Im hoping someone can give me some guidance in removing the standard rear centre diffuser as im hoping to install a challenge centre diffuser in its place I understand that there are just three plastic rivet things that need to be pulled out and the rest is secured by plastic clips... Anything else I need to know...? Cheers |

There are 3 Torx screws (black) in the back loosen those up all the way and tere are 2 plastic tabs on each side (4 total) take those out. Then start from either side and pull the diffuser out down and out and it should unclip slowly. when the whole diffuser comes out the middle plastic piece will be tricky and be careful not to break the plastic tabs but they should unclip if you pull the plastic piece and the challenge piece goes in and clips in. and you put it back together and enjoy!

You have to take the whole thing off, you cant just take the center off.

thought i'd comment.. just did this last night in under 15 minutes the other night with BMW Motorsports piece..
Gentleman Jack on Rocks is optional I used a panel removal tool to remove 4 plastic clips holding the center section of diffuser. In the middle you have three heavy duty bolts, will need star impact socket to get them off and little bit off pressure as they have thread lock.. Once hardware is out, simply wiggle the unit down and inward towards front of the car to slowly release plastic tabs holding it to upper section of diffuser.. (painted part). The OEM unit fit like a glove, align it all back together and reinstall the hardware.. I WOULD RECOMMEND GETTING NEOPRENE BLACK WASHERS for heavy duty bolts so you dont have direct bolt to carbon contact.. |

T27 indeed. Took me about 20 mins also. I had to use a nylon prybar to unclip the diffuser, took some force actually. The CF diffuser clipped in like butter though.

T27 and a little bit of patience is enough. I changed mine myself on the driveway. Actually I did it twice. Once with plastic diffuser and second time with the carbon fibre one.

Really stupid question, I just received a genuine M performance centre rear diffuser, was wondering if this part comes with any clips or bolts. Can I install it if i don't get the optional washers or heavy duty bolts and just use the parts that will come off the car from the stock rear diffuser. As I only received the carbon diffuser and nothing else.

Installed my M-Performance diffuser yesterday. It was a pain getting the middle portion off. I had to pull the entire diffuser off the bumper to pull apart the middle section. Looks good though.

Thanks for this easy DIY. Did it tonight. Just like everyone said T27 torx for 3 screws in the front. 4 tab anchors (2 each side) and then 5 plastic tabs on the very rear portion. I'd suggest using a trim removal kit like "hybrid_eg" has pictured. I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (don't worry, not an affiliate link)
Will prevent potential damage to the remainder of the diffuser. Got some silicone washers for the torx screws. Did everything in reverse and we're good to go. Will post some obligatory pictures tomorrow, did this tonight in the garage and lighting terrible. |
