The only decision to be made on the next 2er is to go forward with a four door Gran Coupe as expected in the segment?
Or offer further practicality with a five dr Gran Coupe?

By all accounts I am not familiar with the full appearance or design process of the next 2er as all I can go on is hearsay at the moment.
What I have heard is from those who have seen stages of the design process which I understand to still be active.
I am reminded of some who have seen stages of the process of a sharper kink at the rear glasshouse and an evolutionary face joining to the kidney grille this time but with sharper detailing and interpretations of original forms, similar to the ideas of old and new on the CSL Hommage.

Sounds promising..really hope for a M2 GC for the next gen 2er.

As things are going, I expect the next 2er to borrow heavy cues from the upcoming 1er sedan? The same way the 3/4, X5/6, X3/4..are almost exactly the same except for proportions. Hope the next 6er dont look exactly the same as the 5 though, it would take away its exclusivity and sportier stance.

BMW can keep their "+50k 4cyl. based on a FWD car next gen 2 series". But I'm sure there is a market for this stuff...

Who said the next 2er would be FWD?

You know what I mean..., the next 1 series will be FWD and that platform can be used for RWD as well, like I read here before. I don't say it won't be good, but I don't care because of the rest of the car.

After months and years of waiting, I'm pissed off since there won't be such a car what I was waiting for. Off course not everyone can be pleased, but this is just ridiculous.

So I'm going to be quiet again and won't discuss this kind of decisions anymore, because in the end it doesn't matter.

Scott,

I think a 4 door gran coupe in this segment would fit perfectly in the millennial / young professionals niche looking to move up from their honda civics and toyota corollas to something more exciting.

As much as I love to see such a car, the problem is that we would need to be competitive in terms of pricing with the A3 and CLA but because of their FWD platform, we will certainly be at a pricing disadvantage unless we can somehow keep the cost down.

My 2 cents.

With every gran coupe. 4 gc and 6 gc. Most people think they look amazing!

In contrast with every gran turismo, 3gt and 5gt, most people think they look disgusting.

If BMW can keep the wheelbase close to the coupe's / the grand coupe will be a nice edition.

I would never buy a hatchback or a FWD car unless it was for one of my kids or my wife.

A 2 series gran coupe would be the size of an e36 or e46 sedan. You don't think people want that ?

This s*** is priceless. A company thats supposed to be doing "the ultimate driving machine" and we are discussing design. Design wise the gorgeous A3 wins (btw audi did a great job at bringing the e46 to the market) What we should be talking about is bmw's inability to make a proper eps. Just tested the 3ser lci last thursday and I swear its actually worse than the pre-lci.

I think the 6 and 4 gc's are beautiful renditions...If the 2 can stay nicely proportioned and the wheelbase doesn't get crazy I'd be keen in considering it next.

All these superficial and vain people will pass on a 2 series anyways so can all us e36/e46 sedan lovers have atleast 1 car ? Those cars were special because they mixed sport with awesome packaging / practicality.

5 door gran turismo with good visibility please
