First laps in M5 at Silverstone GP track day
Took a couple of laps to get the hang of it.. but it's pretty handy on track for such a big car... brakes held up well.. Could do with stiffer springs for track use... Sorry about the radio being on... |

Very fun video, thanks for posting. Yes, if you do some suspension work and go to stickier 20" tires there'll be a world of difference. You handle it very well when it's out of shape, you won't be that way as much with those improvements.

To be fair to the M5, I am doing a lot to provoke the rear.... took a couple of laps to get the timing right..the front axle is too easily overwhelmed....and makes it quite benign for a RWD car with nearly 600hp... The e39 and E60 m5s had a lot more front grip and oversteered even more... imho |

Fantastic! Glad to see someone else on the track. I am registered to run the GP course in Indianapolis in August, and expect to do other tracks before that. I have found that smoothness pays off in a heavy car. It is not nearly as tosable as my e30 M3, but obviously much faster in the straights. I have to admit, I have never listened to talk radio while on the track!

Shit... you can handle a car well, few mods and you'll see a world of difference, H&R, Michelin 305 Cup 2's, and a remap.... cant believe you tuned in for the latest on the general election while going sideways - respect !!

Would like less understeer. Thinking I will check alignment first and then stiffer springs.. i had an e90 m3 but the M3 had too little damper travel to lower without running on bump stops.. is the f10 ok lowered ? |

The challenge you have is the spring options are not great (5-10% stiffer) and I don't believe the Dinan or KW are stiffer than the competition springs. H&R might be but the combination with stock suspension is not the best (I havent tried this)
The 'how much' the M5 gets out of shape at the limit really bothered me as the car as you well know does start to drive like a soft 2 tonne boat at the limit. I have addressed this and the chassis balance with KW V3 and a lot of experimentation with settings, Dinan roll bars full hard. I know it's good now as a few weeks back in Anglesea and the EVO triangle in Wales I could leave a 911, RS6 and not get clawed back in very quickly by a 675 LT. It no longer feels like a floaty boat at the limit. The car is about 12mm lower than CP ride heights so about 20mm lower than a stock car. I have zero clearance issues and run 15mm spacers |

I am curious and will start by looking at alignment to see where it is just now, I suspect they run a lot of rear toe in, to improve traction, and possibly a lot at the front to make it benign on turn in.. Was hoping to find someone to code the EDC to ZCP settings.. can't find anyone to do this yet.. any one done this? |

Thanks for the data.. so are you saying the camber at the front is not adjustable unless I lower the car or replace some parts? As the m3 has been hacked I figured the whole bmw EDC family was hacked... but you are probably right as I can't find anyone who has done it... |

I might be out of date with EDC hacking, not sure !
Yes a very silly decision with the front camber adjustment it's only changed by swapping arms, obviously as you lower the car you will get a little negative camber. Even more annoying is the arms are about 1/2 a degree increase or decrease in camber so getting camber adjusted better than close is not possible I did consider having some adjustable bottom arms made which would have been no more expensive than a BMW part ! |
