N63 Exhaust Manifold/Header conversion
Has anyone ever attempted to swap the S63TU snake manifold for the basic N63 manifold?
![]() N63 ![]() S63TU I appreciate the S63TU flows infinitely better than the N63 but i'd happily sacrifice a few HP and some throttle response for that traditional V8 burble. Has anyone tried it and what are the results? |

Downpipes and an xpipe will go a long way to sporting up the sound of the engine.

Hi,
Just wanted to share with you guys that it’s been done. I made the s63 exhaust manifold (cross banked) conversion to the n63 engine and it’s running great. Way better flow, less heat, better throttle response and gained performance. It sounds even better than it was. It was a pain in the ass to find the right guy who could pull this off and get the car running right.. Tuner Vladfet did a fenomenal job ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi, since last year I've been trying to figure out how to do it and whether it's worth doing it, the sound has changed a lot compared to the series? Is it more like the s63 engine? Do you have a recording?

There are two ways to approach it, you can use s63 turbos (turbine housing to exhaust manifold straight fit) but you would need to change cooling lines from the turbos etc etc. Second option, use the stock turbos and machine the turbine housing to fit the s63 manifold. I went with the second option. |

What about the oil cooler? The n63 motors use a large water to oil cooler in the engine 'valley' that takes up a lot of room there. It looks like the bulky oil cooler would be in the way of the s63 manifold. How did you sort that?

So from what I am reading, you cannot just change the exhaust manifold. It looks like a tune is needed and some additional cooling line mods. In addition the N63 turbos will not mount to the S63 cross plane manifold.

Hi, it’s not a oil cooler, but a vacuum reservoir. There are two types of reservoirs. I have the flat plastic one. Just got some longer vacuum line and mounted it nicely to the subframe under the radiator pack.

I have s63 cross exhaust manifold on the way. This is part of a bigger project.
Silicone intake tubes using 2020 M5 turbo intakes. I hope they fit. Crank case catch can. Charge pipes. I think the ARM versions. Turbo blankets. Heat wrap or ceramic coating for new manifold. Thermal shielding for block valley. I already have the Dinan Sportronic installed. Hopefully this will be more than just cosmetic. If it is then I hope to have some fun doing it. |
