Does anybody have a set of charcoal filters that they don't need anymore that I can take off their hands? I can't seem to find the ones I removed...

I don't need to keep them, I'd just need to borrow them for a week.

Thanks,

Nick

Took 20 minutes to remove both filters just now. Noticed mine had the snorkles. I didn't think there were any benefits (sound/performance) so I left them after removing them. Lol.

I can't tell any difference with noise when I rev it in park. I'm hoping I notice something when I go for a drive later.

Great thread guys! Just removed mine the other day. Passenger side was a breeze, driver's side took 20 min to figure out the right tools for the 1 screw. Removing the clamp and hose made just enough room to get an extension in place.

Thanks

I did mine and I think I spent about an hour with wife's help.
The 7th screw on the driver side was really the pain. Finally got to it- charcoal filters out and put BMC in. Tightening the 7th screw was also big pain.

Thanks guys, Did mine last night!

I deleted the Charcoal Filters last night. Boy were the driver side 7 screw hard to take out, I finally gave out and open that intake enough to take out the charcoal filter. I took out the oem filter to find a big wooden tree dead leaf so I took that out and put the oem filters back in their place. Here a couple of pictures guys.

Thanks.

You could always get a personalized license plate for the M5 that reads "SCREW7" so that only those knowledgeable enough would get the joke.

The DYI is for the removal of charcoal filter.
DO NOT remove the airfilter as it can lead to severe damage of your engine.
Wtf is this charcoal filter there for anyway??

Screw #7 was a tough one, but mission accomplished! Thanks for the instructions and the video. Both of them were definitely helpful.

Didn't really notice a major difference in acceleration, possibly a slight increase. I did however notice that the exhaust note was a bit louder than it was before!

'14 CP - Had snorkels in the airboxes. I just left them in.

To all - I don't know how this DIY's were started with these directions.

Its absolutely earier to pull the whole airbox IMO. There's literally a single Torx bolt holding the box in. Loosen the flathead screw on the jubilee clip post MAF and the whole box pops out and provides easy access to screw 7.
