Mainly phone commands. 90% of what I say for navigation and other functions translates into the wrong command or wrong street. Just faster to spin the dial and type it in.

Same - mostly phone commands. But they have taken a big step backward with the latest iDrive software as you can no longer just say "call John Smith mobile". I find it quite irritating that you now have to go thru two sets of commands with an affirmation after each to do what one command had done since iDrive's first gen.

Garage List
Dial by name
Control display off
Connected devices (play artist, play album, etc.)
Satellite radio
Home address
Set temperature
Split screen off
Split screen entertainment
Split screen map facing north
Vehicle status
vehicle info
Split screen traffic conditions
Last destinations
Messages

I use all of these. The biggest things I find disappointing is inability to dial by name in a single command, and high error rate in album and artist selection.

Set temperature...really? That's easier than just reaching down and spinning the dial?

Talking to the car increases your engagement with the machine!

On another note, I agree that trying to give navigation addresses other than "home address" or "last destinations" to the nav is pretty useless.

However for this I have the ultimate voice command function - I press the Concierge hotkey and I get a real live human being to program the nav for me! This feature is worth every penny of the BMW Assist Convenience Plan.

Love that, I think I will start getting them involved.

thanks. that's a nice list. i have a few of those programmed for my hot buttons.
i think you can dial by name in a single command though. "dial mom mobile" for instance would work.

Tried it. For some reason the voice recognition of the name is abyssmal when using a complex command, but works fine if you do a 2 step command starting with Phonebook, then name as a second step. I'll keep trying.

agreed.
i have mom programmed as hot key 1 anyway.
i discovered you can also change scale of the split screen map by saying "1 mile, 1/2 mile, etc."
what's the command for changing the main screen display?

I think it is:
set map scale to _____

However I'm not certain because I don't use it.

I tend to send google directions to the car, so they are there when I need them. Of course this is of no value for on the fly navigation. I find manually putting in navigation information really tedious as well. Much more difficult than other auto nav systems.

Not sure if you guys have tried to change the spoken language from default to short or vice versa. If I remember it's under the language menu. This works fairly well.......the CEO and I were using the system extensively last weekend and it recognized every address it was given. I too was amazed at how well it responded.......GL...............Phil

I used it once. Make sure when using voice commands your a/c system is not blowing hard (turn it down to 1/2).

I usually have my AC at 66 and on Auto. The issue is usually not fan speed but where the vents are pointed. Don't point them at the mic.

Yeah there you go that's #1 cause. #2 could be ambient noise if you are at max fan speed.
