Looks like a freakin EPIC trip man! Trips like that are what the M5 is made for! Just curious, why the stop at Fairfield? I'm a bay area native, and there is nothing very interesting there as far as I know. Looking forward to this writeup!

I'll just be staying the night in Fairfield. I have some very good friends who live there. One of them is a guy who was one of the first guys to put an ESS VT2 Supercharging kit on his E60 M5. He is also the only one in the world right now that is doing a low compression build on his Supercharged S85 V10 in order to extract more power. Unfortunately his car is no where near being complete. I was hoping to race him, even though I don't have a tune. Lol!

Right on Dave! Route looks fantastic. Let's hope that those countermeasures are not required

In case you didn't know - Jammers and detectors are both illegal in VA. I've never tried to run one so I don't know how tough they are on enforcement, but then again I don't run around at 130mph (550i 6MT no stage 4).

Yes I did know that. I used to live in VA over a decade ago. Trust me I have no intention of driving through the state if I can avoid it. I just don't want to deal with it. I will only be living about 7 miles from my job in DC and I can take the metro if I want.

This looks like an awesome trip. If I could take off my job I would hop in the car with you and roll as a videographer.

Dave, good luck with your move. I'm glad I got to meet someone who is so passionate about M5s. I will continue to enjoy your posts. Sorry I missed your going away party. I just had a new baby arrive a month ago. Been busy with two little ones. Best wishes!

So I've officially moved out if San Diego. I had an EPIC drive up Highway 1 today in my M5. Staying the night up at BarryB's tonight. All I can say is that even with my M5 loaded down with all my junk, the car was still amazing. During some portions of today's drive I had Sport+ everything going on and still had a blast on some I credible roads today. Here's one shot I took just north of Santa Barbara. I'll be hitting up Laguna Seca tomorrow and some other cool stuff. It really is like Euro Delivery all over again.

Crap man, I'm in Europe at the moment, but saw you are going through South Dakota... I was stationed up there for four years... lots of cool things to see, lots of great roads to drive on, especially this time of year. Are you going in/around the Black Hills/Deadwood/Sturgis/Rapid City? If you need any advice, let me know... just outside of there to the east is obivously the badlands, and the inevitable recommendation to go to Wall Drug, but dont blow off or go around the 'hills!

Have fun on your drive.

Where you at Ellsworth AFB?

I've actually stayed at the Ellsworth AFB Inn while visiting family. One of them was a Air Force pilot and we got to stay at the base! Even have a stamp in my Passport from security there

I feel your pain. I actually just posted this link as an homage to living near backwoods. I'm sure you'll find your way to some country roads and have fun!

Sounds like a fun trip! I am in Ohio near your pt K (Florence, Ky). Although Ohio is good to avoid from a speed enforcement standpoint, it looks like you will travel though just a sliver of it on your way to Florence.

Thanks guys! Yes had a blast with BarryB this morning. Went to Laguna Seca and saw some EPIC stuff. I wanted to drive it so bad. Lol!

Yes I will actually be staying at Ellsworth AFB while I am passing thru. I'm planning on hitting Mt Rushmore and the Badlands.

Here's a couple of pix from this morning. I'm heading to the Golden Gate Bridge right now.

Bad things happening at the Navy base in Washington DC now (thought it appropriate to mention it since you are heading to DC). Hope it all gets sorted soon.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of those affected.
