Declined warranty

Thinking about a remap on my F10 M5..

Evolve in the UK were very straight forward. They said that all tunes are detectable. Even if the car is returned to stock, the ECU knows when it was last remapped, and the ECU stores achieved boost levels.
Kinda put me off.... but the temptation to add 100hp or so is hard to resist

Just wondering how many people on here have had a tune detected and BMW warranty work declined... and how many have a tune detected and had warranty work carried out regardless...

What’s your experience ?

Think about it
They can tell its done

Low level stuff they will repair

Anything catastrophic will be declined

Depends on platform used to tune. When using bootmod3 you can flash back to stock and re-lock the ECU. This supposedly making it impossible to tell if it has been remapped in the past. To my knowledge anyway.

Evolve are great guys and very honest. I have their tune on my M550i. I got rid of my M5 when I was going to get their tune on it. When I spoke with tech manager at dealership he said they can tell but his stance on it was as long as it's tuned to stock they wouldn't look for reasons to decline anything. But like post prior said, blown engine it's out of hands locally and brought to BMWNA to rule on anything large. I'd think $10k or more but I have no idea at what point local dealer needs Corp approval.

Both my opinion and experience

Im on my 3rd m car and had an n63 prior x5 that was tuned!

Aside from that its common knowledge they can detect tunes very easily if looking

So if u dont give them a reason to look they dont know

Any decent claims require data sent for puma for diagnosis and or germany

You take a chance with your warranty but dealerships generally make money from warranty claims so its not in their interest to refuse work, however I dont know at what point BMW UK would ask for their own techs to get involved.

If the fault was directly caused by the tune then you could have issues but the whole warranty for the entire car is not void if its unrelated would be my understanding.

If you went Stage 1 and changed the oil regularly and warmed the car up properly then the engine should be good, however if you remove cats and go stage 2 or more then you are in different territory and in my opinion asking for trouble.

With OpenFlash it locks the DME and resets the counter so I guess that is as good as you need for an initial inspection by the dealer, however if BMW properly look into the DME at a deeper level then who knows what they can find.

I have found from experience that with warranty claims its not black and white and you need a dealer that is good to work with and wants to help you, a claim maybe rejected by one dealer but approved by another.

If you decide to go Stage 1 then you must get a tune that allows you to add/remove yourself.

Even buying BMW breakdown on the 'phone the gal asks questions if it's modded and it's recorded.
