Hud out of focus and distorted
So I have to replace a windshield after it got hit by a rock. The HUD is now out of focus and a bit distorted. Is this something that can be re-focused by plugging into OBD2 by a scanner?

I don’t really know if such setting exists. But I do know there are two different windshields for f10, one is for non-hud version and the other is for hud version. If you put on the wrong windshield, you cannot see HUD clearly like you state.
Just check your windshield first |

Umm that's weird. I would take it back to where you got installed from. I've replaced two bmw windshields with HUD. Its supposed to be the place that replaced its job to make sure its collaborated right.

Yeah what they said.... there are two windshields for our cars. with and without HUD. GL!
Edit: Found a thread where a member had his replaced and posted his receipt. You can see it is specific to rain sensing, HUD etc. Hope this helps you https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1172991

Thanks for the replies so far guys. The windshield does show that it is for HUD as indicated by the stamp. Maybe the glass quality is bad.

Id only get genuine
My heads up display has always been out of focus It depends on your height I had hud replaced under warranty and it made no difference There is a note when we queried it with puma case that this is considered normal! Funny how my wifes x5 is perfect and we have had 2 x5s |

There are settings in the I-drive for adjusting the HUD but I don't think you can adjust the focus. You can adjust brightness, pan the image left/right, up/down and even tilt it! If the image is at the wrong height for where your seat position is, it can look out of focus because it's near the edge of the viewing angle.

There might be a calibration procedure in ista for a new windshield. If you have the KAFAS camera for the driver aids, that definitely has to be recalibrated whenever it comes off a windshield.

Just a silly thought. Maybe the projector lens got smudged during the windshield installation. Try some glass cleaner and clean the projector screen for the HUD. Sometimes is it the simplest things that we over look.

Ok, I am going to ask my service advisor to see if they can recalibrate it when I get me next service done.
BMWM5NYC: I cleaned it but no help. I was so hoping that is the case...LOL
