New owner from Houston, 2014 M5 Frozen Silver

Hey guys, new F10 owner here, coming from my beloved E60 beast that was hit in the side and insurance is totaling out (thread in classifieds for it). Here's a few crappy cell phone pics.

A few weeks ago the wife and I flew to Little Rock to pick up this F10, it's a 2014 with only 11,500 miles. Frozen Silver, CCBs(), Comp Pack, B&O, Alcantara, rear entertainment...basically every option except night vision. New set of PSSs. Almost flawless in and out and the color combo looked even better in person than the pictures. I didn't even have to test drive it and just told him "yup, let's do it".
I'm still getting used to the feel of it, but man the power is just unrelenting, and made me say "holy shit" when I finally hammered on it coming home. Interior is light years ahead of the E60, and the car definitely feels larger and heavier. Got Bimmercode and did some coding, and other than removing the charcoal filters and maybe a clear bra, I'm not doing much to it. Got a 5/50 warranty through Patriot Warranty that starts next month. Even the wife loved driving it and basically hated my other one. Not a big deal, but gas mileage is up ~20% from the E60 so every little bit adds up over time. The newer iDrive is such an improvement, no more lagging at start up. DCT is awesome so far.

Question, a few of the wheels have some clearcoat cracking on them, is that normal for the 601s? Easily repaired?

My first m5 was an e60. You will miss the v10. But the f10 is more liveable. Definitely an upgrade.

Might be able to warrantee the wheels? If not, they can be refinished at a wheel repair shop. I have the CCB's as well, I love them but watch it in the rain and after washing the car, you will sometimes have little to no stopping until they dry themselves. I a little scary until you get accustomed to it, ha! I don't have the squealing as bad as others have reported but there is a law suit out there about the noisy CCB's. I'm wondering if there will be some kind of recall at some point.

Nice car, I like the color. I personally wouldn't have tint that dark but I haven't even tinted mine yet so who am i to say...

Thanks guys. Yes I will definitely miss spinning the V10 up to 8000+ with the whiplash type shift of the SMG in S6. One of a kind for sure.

Thanks Larry, the previous owner told me about that and I did some reading on it. Mine do squeal a bit, off and on at lower speeds but it's not too bad. Do you have a link to the lawsuit info?

DM sent slo.

Nice car and even better find with low miles. Enjoy it.

Any mods done or planned?

Congrats on the car!

I have M6 601M's and I don't have that issue. Doesn't seem that common to me

Welcome and congrats! Car looks gorgeous!

I second your plan for charcoal filter delete as the only "mod". Definitely do a full front end PPF to keep that paint nice, especially with that color.

Thanks guys....no mods planned really. The low miles is what really drew me to this one and the seller moved on the price some. I did inquire about a clear bra yesterday and that's definitely on the to-do list.

The suit may fizzle out, I'm surprised there isn't a suit about how they behave in heavy rain. Until you get used to it, it can be a bit frightening when you literally have no braking until they dry themselves off. In the manual BMW recognizes this and suggests we tap our brakes to dry them every few miles, what the?!?!? I usually only notice it when it's heavy rain or just after a wash but still it's a trip...

Let us know how that patriot warranty works out. I've seen another post where someone purchased that warranty but I haven't seen any about claims filing yet.

Thanks Larry. My TL is my rain car but will definitely take it easy if I get caught out in a storm. I mentioned this to my wife last night but I think it in one ear and out the other

luv - Hopefully I won't have any claims but will post up about the process if I do.

Congrats, looks amazing! Clear coat on my 601's is doing the same thing; not sure what the repair process is. I'm thinking of going the HRE route at some point anyway.

Had it on one of my wheels.I used clean wire wool to take away the flaking until smooth not too hard then a clear coat and voila good as new, a quick dab is all you need and about 8 inches away.

Thanks jedi, the pictures don't do it justice, it looks much better in person.

Appreciate the wheel tip M5.

First mod, the Ultimate Cupholder!

Now I can stow my coffee cup out of the way. Used it for years in the E60.

I ordered it so long ago that I'm not sure which model. I do remember the owner being helpful with my questions though. I'd send him my picture and see what he says.
