HELP!! 1200 mile service
So the dealer I am taking my car to during ED is saying they only change oil and diff. They said they dont make any ECU changes. They said only theM Drivers pkg get the ECU change.
Is that correct? Does the car change on its own after the 1200mi has been checked in the computer. I dont get it! HELP I have seen some documentation on here about it but they only show the oil changes. What do I need to ask for or can someone help provide info to pass to the dealership?? |

Your dealer is confused in terms. The "M Drivers Pkg" is NOT an "M" car it's only a car with some M badges and paddle shifters but NO M engine! I just had the 1,200 mile done on my '14. They did the engine oil change w/filter (5W-30), rear end drive gear oil change and as near as I can't tell from the service ticket if there was a ECU change. I have a call in now to my very competent service advisor and will get back to you IF they in fact change the chip. I doubt they do.

Stealth is correct. No ECU recoding done, it will be the same car as before
![]() The M driver package removes the 250km/h limiter , it's not available in NA and you can't get it "applied/installed" in Europe/during ED

My service advisor just got back to me. It turns out that when the BMW tech resets the 1,200 mile setting (what or where ever that is) it "opens up the chip". Before that time the car is "somewhat" limited. The M5 with the CP is chip limited to 190mph as I'm sure you all know. I'd suspect the car is restricted in some way shape or form before the 1,200 mile reset. The ONLY thing that shows on the 1,200 mile service ticket is the engine oil & filter change and the Final-Drive Gear Oil change. So in fact there is a "stealth chip change" at the 1,200 mile service.

There is a M drivers pakage offered in some of the EU countries that raises the speed to about 200mph.
I hope that your right about the 190mph with cp that would be great. I will test it in 1.5 week after breakin on the autobahn. Have you seen the 190mph on any paperwork ? |

well check this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSUYvBI1xWU&noredirect=1
I thought I only went 162mph (but I was driving and paying attention to the road). However if you look at the bottom left digitial readout on the dash, I get to 264kph or 164mph... this is significantly above the 155mph limit. Even with 4 mph correction, this is clearly above the limiter. By the way the car still had much room to go and I never felt revlimiter kick (Im familiar with it on my wife's car). here's hoping its still open when it gets stateside, though I dont know where I could test it.

This is interesting. CP may be more than we all expected =). As mentioned not that we can use those speeds in the USA but still neat.

Yep, my car on my ED.. the day after break-in and the ECU "unlock" or whatever we are calling it. There's a huge track complex north of Nellis AFB in Vegas... I wonder if there was a way to get a track day for someone to try opening the car fully up.

I'd sure be willing to go in on the costs. Does "track complex" mean abandoned air field?

I have yet to find out about the high speed track however the drag strip is open to the public usually every other Friday night. They call it Midnight Mayhem. $15 to run your own car down the track. If you run under 13.0 seconds you are required to wear a helmet. If you have the competition package you will run under 13.0 seconds.

yeah sorry i didnt reply to your earlier... Ive flown over the Las Vegas Motor Speedway hundreds of times... it hosts all kinds of races all the way up to NASCAR events. They have like 8 different tracks... including a drag strip that you refer too.
I am stationed no where near there, just saw your questions and thought it might be a close place to try to get your car up to the speeds it can reach given enough road.

Two things going on IMHO...
1. Drivers package on a German car. Moves limit to 190MPH. 2. The speedo on the cars read a % faster than you are actually traveling - not a fixed number. I can say that on my car and one other member on this board (I was driving his car) the indicated max is off by 12mph. This was with the stock 20" with OEM rubber and also 21"s at less than 1% diameter difference. Just my experience. I seriously doubt a NA car fitted with CP will raise the max speed to 305kph or higher.
