All petrol comes from the same source or "tub" yes but its what additives are put in with it. Octane boosters and cleaners etc.
Redex is good stuff, as is Forte cleaner. Both make a difference on a rough running engine. Both are also proved to restore injector spray pattern and remove carbon from an engine. Now and again adding a decent cleaner is a great idea.

How often do you add it, every other fill up?

I have not used it on the M5 as its only done 16,000 miles but use it in the Wifes Golf GTi and it feels smoother. The first use seemed to make the biggest difference.

I am going to add to the M5 though as it wont harm and the injectors may benefit from a clean.

Probably add it every few months

Not connected with fuel but was there an amicable resolution to your worn seat covering(s).

Yes there was, the seat cover was replaced under warranty and they also replaced the foam underneath as it was worn so the leather had creases in it.

It took 6 weeks but its now all sorted and at no cost.

Its so important to have a good relationship with a service advisor as not all dealerships are the same when it comes to things like this.

They also did the MOT whilst it was in.

I'd go mad 6 weeks without my M,at least you got it back to your liking with that top warranty. Was the colour match straightforward..

You'll find the base product which has to meet regulation is all the same whether its asda or tesco it all comes from the same place, the detergents are then added and thats what seperates it from good fuel and normal fuel.

I use Tesco99 as its close to me or shell when i fancy a blast out to the forth bridge.

Every other fill up... so twice a month.
Though?
Too often or needs to be each fill?

I dont think it needs to be that often, even once a month is probably a little overkill but I cant see it harming anything

I did 20quid of Texaco normal unleaded the other day (no options). I parked up with 15miles range and when I restarted I got some nasty misfiring. A few mins and 50quid of 97 later it was fine. I noted that in the manual it says you shouldn’t run below range 30miles or you can damage your engine.

The misfiring was pretty awful but it did sound a whole lot like an original ford GT40 starting up. Which was nice.

Only used V power in mine, seems to be running fine on it....
Used to use redex on my 1983 XR3i not sure it did anything, but the placebo affect made me feel better about the car 😜

I have tried Esso Supreme 97 and have to say the car goes really well on it. I was dubious as V Power and Momentum are 99, however i read that they use a lot of methanol to get to 99 octane whereas Esso does not use Ethanol (except in certain parts of the country)

Given that it says you should run an M5 on 98 Octane do you think it matters?

I think the car with a Stage 1 map on Esso fuel drives really well and has less soot on the exhaust pipes.

Interesting that there's less soot on the outlets.

both Shell and Tesco use 7% ethanol.

Esso super unleaded petrol (Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97) is ethanol free (except in Devon, Cornwall, the Teesside area and Scotland).
