Lost a nut during rear shock rebuild
Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and knows where I might be able to find the nut my buddy dropped while we were reinstalling the rear left shock. He said it dropped and went towards the trunk between the two posts on the shock top. Feeling around in there with a magnet on a stick, we couldn't find the nut, and it seems like this space extends pretty deep. Where does this lead? Do I have to take off the "trunk shelf" to get to it? I skipped this step and just used some string to guide the EDC connectors in and out, so only the side trim parts of the seats are removed along with the speaker covers.
For reference, the car is a 2014 M5 comp with the fold down rear seats and ski bag. I picked it up about two months ago, so I'm still new to the platform. I'm also coming from a 97 Z3, so there's much more tech crammed in than I'm used to. I'm not absolutely sure what lays under the trim just yet, and I don't want to rip it all out to go looking in the wrong places for a nut that might've leapt out on the test drive. I almost dropped half of the nuts when I was taking them out since it is such a cramped space at the top of the shock tower, so I can't imagine we're the first ones to do this. Anyone have any insight on where to look? |

Yeah, first thing I did was order a replacement. I just didn't want to hear the lost one rolling around while I drive. Haven't heard anything, so I'm assuming it fell out at some point lol
