Strange noise at idle F10 M5 video
Looking at stock M5 with 85k miles. Has a slight chatter at idle only. Is this normal? Sound like a flywheel chatter.

Mine is a 2015 CP with 73k miles. Runs awesome. I read on another forum where a guy replaced the flywheel but the nose came back. I'm planning to get under mine and try and pinpoint were the nose is coming from.

I have a 2014 m5 with the same issue, my mechanic said the fly wheel should be the issue & had the fly wheel replace. Didn’t work. Any updates on your car ? The sound drives me nuts & it sounds like the trans is going to blow up any sec

Plot twist. So my engine ate rod bearings on cylinder 4 and 8. It went to Pure Performance in Houston for a rebuild. After reassembly the flywheel is quiet. TJ keeps all the parts separated and organized. Somehow it's happy after being removed and reinstalled. It's weird. But so happy she nice and quiet.

I just took delivery of my '14 M5. It has just gone though an engine rebuild by RK autowerks (previous owner sent it in and got the work done, then sold to me) , but it has the same chattering sound. RK suspects it's from the flywheel. It's driving me crazy as it sounds terrible.
Will be dropping it off to another shop in the next few weeks to diagnose. |

I have the same sound in my 2013 M5 for the last 20k miles (currently 77k). One mechanic said it's normal and nothing to worry about. Another said the flywheel needs to be replaced, it will get worse and start causing problems.
The sound is annoying but goes away as soon as it is in gear, and doesn't seem to affect driving (yet). |
