F10 M5 One Year Ownership Write-Up

So it's officially been a year since I've picked up my F10 M5 and I wanted to give my perspective of ownership, which might be of interest to some prospective owners.

I'll start with the details of the car: 2012 Monte Carlo Blue M5 purchased at 74400kms (46230 miles) and at the time of writing in at 100100km (62200 miles). I purchased the car with a full service history, which was my main requirement when purchasing the car, as I intended to daily the f**k out of it when I got it.

Maintenance and Repairs:
The first year of ownership has been remarkably cheap even considering the mileage I've done this year. This is due to the prevalence of independent mechanics in my area (Vancouver BC). My main expense was oil changes, I've done 4 so far this year, 10 quarts of oil averaging out at around 200 bucks per change. I had a misfire early on into ownership which I fixed with all new coils and plugs. Had I gone to a dealer it would have been approximately 700 for the plugs alone, however with the help of a friend I was able to get coils and plugs done for $400 (the price of coils and plugs). I needed to get a gas cap for 40 dollars, and a MAF sensor as I had a rich mixture code. I also needed two rear tires for 1k CAD. In terms of actual repairs it was approximately 520 for the MAF and Coils and Plugs. With tires and oil changes included we're up to $1920 CAD for running costs for the year. That being said I'm anticipating the coming year to be much more more expensive due to some more preventative maintenance that I have planned, specifically injector replacements for all 8 cylinders, DCT and Diff fluid change and brake replacements, which would total around 5k. I want to be clear the injectors are being done preventatively and as of right now there are no symptoms that they're going bad.

Summary: This has been the best most reliable car I've ever owned. It's never let me down, been a beast when I wanted it to be, a regular 5 series when I wanted it to be, and average 15mpg throughout the entire time. I've owned the car so far without warranty and would do so again without hesitation. Oil consumptions has been steady at around 5k a litre of oil. Overall and phenomenal experience and something I would recommend to anyone.

TL;DR
Amazing experience that has been surprisingly cheap on the wallet, and would do so alllll over again.

Very nice man....

I just scooped a f10 comp, also in MC blue last week. It has 11.5k miles and I'm looking forward to my first yr of ownership.

My front tires will be there first to go, what replacements did you get??

How do you like the PS4s from a noise perspective?

I had them on my Hellcat and loved them. I am looking at F10s now and the one thing I hate is how much road noise I hear on the highway from the tires. I'm buying one as a daily/commuter, so it's important to me haha.

Plus has tire warranty I think to 30K miles which is nice.

Aren't tire warranties cut in half if they can't be rotated?

Nice write up. I'd say my experience has been very similar to yours (Mine is a 2013). Oil changes with some PM work: fluid changes, spark plugs, coils, MAF's and injectors. Oil consumption is about the same. 1 quart/liter between 5k mile oil changes. I've done about 27,000 miles (up to 77k on the car now).

It's been very reliable for me as well. It seems the F10 chassis is very robust with the S63 engine being the only thing that needs attention. Which, as a M bred/ M specific unit, I would expect some maintenance being needed to keep it running top.

Re: tires - PS4S is an excellent choice. Great tire overall but also gives excellent traction. If you just daily and rarely "hoon", I strongly recommend the AS4 all season if they make them in our sizes. If not, the AS3+ is probably just as good. You get 80% of the performance from the PS4S but a lot longer tread life and better abilities in cold or inclimate weather.

THE PS4s are the only tires I would recommend at this point. Great grip and traction, no road noise. The best balance overall
