Dude, do not drive that car. Take it to the dealership immediately and report that there are metal flakes in the oil. Then take it from there. 50,000 miles is 50,000 miles and they will replace the engine under factory warranty as long as its under. Trust me, I know what I am talking about.

Also, if you are interested in an extended warranty talk with you local dealership representative about it. I bought my extended warranty from BMW and it was expensive but it was the best deal out of anybody and I got the Platinum coverage.

I asked them last week about the extended warranty
and waiting on a quote. How much did you pay for your warranty?

Yes you can purchase a third party warranty. I'd never own an M5 without one. Do you have the service records?

How often do you change your oil? How many miles are on the car? Where are you located?

If you don't have the old oil, put 500 miles on the new oil and then do an oil analisis at Blockstones(?) or similar - they should be able to tell if there is rod bearing metal in the oil (lead etc) or if its alloy or a form of steel to allow you to gage what you are looking at.

Personnally as there is metal in the oil I would get the engine out, drop the sump and rocker covers and do a full visual inspection - you may not need a full strip down - you can use a bore scope for the top of the cylinders and pistions (unlikely to cause this issue any way)

ill drive it for a 100-200 miles and drop the pan even the upper sump housing ( upper oil pan) and see how it looks like, and send out the sample, if it looks like the rod bearings i can just swap them out from bottom. I read on rheingold i need to go with new set of rod studs and shells ofcorse. Btw i did a full warm up today and did listen to my engine in side a warehouse between 2800-3100 rpm. it sound just like rod noise. but if any one of you guys would do a recording for me i would really be happy. that will make it easy to verify my problem. i did the recording with an iphone in frond of kidneys. also when the na m3/m5 guys do rod bearing do they replace the crankshaft?

Here is an update; so i wasn't paranoid about the noise and oil condition; here is a pic of the first removed bearings main and connecting rods. Ill input more update soon. And i do advice every one to put their old oil under loop! And replace those bearings soon before it boooms!

bearing failures are hard to indemnify by oil analysis, cuz if its ok i wont show and evidence but ones it touches the crankshaft true the oil film it will start and go bad in very short time (less then a oil change period) , my personal experience based on s52 and 4.8is, and f10 m5 engine just listen to it carefully in a closed room like a garage, every 1000-2000 miles.
