Bmc filters...

From searching on here seems like most people with oiled filters wash them before install? I have just got some BMC filters which are fairly oiled up.. and im best to wash them before installing or just wiping excessive oil off?

I would be concerned that you are thinking about taking the oil off the filters when its the oil that does the filtering. Without oil you are running a risk of dust etc getting in the engine.

Personally I would use dry filters that are made as dry filters.

I believe using oiled filters in a BMW is not recommended

I see most high powered m5/6s with standard air intakes running bmc filters... the part is listed at all car part stores in performance sections

I appreciate what you say but oiled filters are sold for many cars and companies such as DMS say they are a bad idea due to the oil damaging I believe MAF sensors.

Personally I wouldn't bother for what they actually deliver in terms of performance gains.

Have you gat a Stage 1 map on your car?

Speaking with Shiv at OpenFlash his view is that the M5 doesn't need any mods other than a good map, de-cats, charge coolers etc are pretty much a waste of time.

I agree to a point as you can get a safe 725bhp with a stage 1 and no other mods and even at this level traction is an issue.

Anymore than that its just pub numbers

I find that 50% of the year the M5 cant use its standard power without the TC coming in.

I have seen an M5 with Stage 2, straight through pipes and cone filters etc produce 25bhp more than the OFT v1.2 map and a bit more torque so why spend all of the money to get maybe a little more power.

The OFT Stage 1 v2 is set to deliver circa 730bhp+ which for $800 is all you need.

What's your motivation for going stage 2 with lots of other mods?

Not trying to be argumentative but am generally interested

No i agree with what you are saying. Im interested in the HCP tunes, my girlfriend lives in germany so a 10hour drive on open roads means perfect place to put some power down. I wont be going down the coolers etc route, just a map downpipes and filter is plenty enough for me. Without looking at the exact figures i thought stage 1 wad around 650bhp? Anything upto early 700’s is plenty enough for me as relaibility is also key.

Have a read of this which I did a few weeks ago

https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1575119

OFT have launched a new V2 map which should give 730bhp+ at the crank, as you know the Yanks use WHP

May save you some money unless you have spent it already

Also have a look at the OpenFlash Post about the V2 Map
