1600+ Sedan Horsepowers Compared - BMW F10 M5 vs E63 AMG vs CTS-V
BIMMERPOST NEWS 1600+ Sedan Horsepowers Compared - BMW F10 M5 vs E63 AMG vs CTS-V Now that the Official F10 M5 Production stats and specs have been revealed, the natural question is how it compares to its most direct competitors. We undertake this comparison below, with a photo and specs shootout against two of the M5's biggest rivals -- the 2012 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sedan. As some might not know yet, Mercedes-Benz has recently announced the use of their new 5.5L twin turbo V8 for the E63 beginning this Fall. We've used this new engine's specs to provide the most up-to-date comparison possible. On paper, the super sedans are pretty evenly matched. The differences will come in the driving experience and real world test results. As BMW traditionally underrates their power figures, we expect the F10 M5's real world performance figures to best the official ones. Full specs table and comparison photos below. Enjoy!

Totally insane, three cars with over 1600 horsepower combined. That would be enough for 10 Obama-mobiles.

I have always thought the CTS-V was ugly, now this just made it look worse
I am not a huge fan of the E63 either, I prefer the looks of the CLS63 and C63 (I can't stand the Mercedes emblem sticking out of the hood, forgot what that is called, I prefer the look of it when they put it in the grill). Not sure why Mercedes went with square pipes either, round/oval look so much better. Gotta say the M5 looks like the best looking of the bunch, and I guess comparing a CLS63 isn't fair (even if prices are similar) because that would be more of a M6 gran coupe comparison. |

If you look at the interiors, I realized that BMW interiors aren't that bad. Really. Maybe the materials are lacking but the E63 and CTS-V interiors are awfully crowded (CTS-V is just ugly, period.) where as the M5 is simple and clean. I don't want to seem biased, this IS a BMW forum, but once again, I'll take a BMW over the competition, BMW just seems to have everything in balance from driving dynamics to style.

That's the AMG Performance Package which -- among some other things -- bumps power and torque of the engine. I've added a clarification.
Best regards, south

CTS-V is pretty impressive given the price point. Too bad its not much of a looker.
Benz looks the best on paper but will put my money on the M5 for winning hearts. Only time will tell.

While I'm at it - how bout max RPM?
I think the new M5 is 7200RPM fuel cutoff according to the press release. The Mercedes 6.2L V8 was also 7200RPM, but I don't know if the new 5.5L turbo is the same. I want to say 6800RPM for the Caddy - but that's purely from vague memory of the LS-A specs. |
