I agree with the AMG exhaust note ... cost $15 k to fix the emasculating 2016 M6 exhaust noise and still not an AMG or 2007 M6 note with the V10

Congrats on the new car. I sometimes miss my Austin yellow M4. It was a good car.

Have you considered a 911? I feel like I've experienced a lot of M models (X5M, M4, M6GC) and may switch to the Stuttgart prancing horse for my next car. My buddy just got a 2017 911 C4S and with 420hp and awd the thing is 11.5 in the quarter and low 3s 0-60. The performance stats on it are nuts.

No I didn't consider 911. I'm not a P-Car fan guy except 911 GT3 which is not a DD car. 911 Turbo S is a fantastic car BTW...

I'm personally looking forward to the next M6. Still like 3 years away though.

So if we talk in Vic years then it's about 18 new cars away (1 car every 2 years)?
No?

Or about 8 Special Edition M4s away.

You meant 1 Car every 2 months?

I believe we will see the 2019 model (M6) here in US around spring or summer 2018

Oh. Yep. 2 months.

That's a long time though for the new M5.

It's funny that you mentioned the Turbo S. 2017 911 Turbo S is the only car I am considering as a potential upgrade from an M6, since really it's probably the only 911 that will feel significantly quicker and faster, while providing all the creature comforts of the M6. The 2017 is 10.5 in the 1/4 at low 130s, with 0-60 in mid 2s. Yes, I know, acceleration and speed isn't everything, but when you're used to the M6 performance it's hard to sacrifice performance.

I also debated 991 GT3 vs Turbo S, but two back seats win every time, since I take my little kids to school.

I don't know, I just feel that with the M6 you reach the pinnacle of the M division.
i8, while great, and an eye turner, doesn't hold a candle to the Turbo S in any category except fuel efficiency. For fuel efficiency I haven an i3, so that box is checked for me. I feel that it's hard to better an M6, other than waiting for a newer model.

Turbo S is, of course, a good bit pricier, but pre-owned market brings the prices down to the M6 level.

The pics below are from Champion Porsche I visited over Thanksgiving. Breathtaking car to say the least, even standing still.

I agree with you that with M6 you reach the pinnacle of M division but each M-car is meant to be built for different taste and has Pros and Cons. For example, M6 is big and there is almost no room on back seat for adult. I wish she was just 4-5" shorter and 200lb lighter. M5 is even bigger and heavier. M2 is a reall nimble car but with plastic material and not for our age. M3/M4 have no luxurious and high quality interior/exterior material of M5/M6 as well as power of S63tu...but still I love the M division line up.
As far as 911 Turbo S as I mentioned is a fantastic car but I still prefer the RWD, NA , high RPM GT3 or GT3/RS but not as a DD car of course... and to be honest with you at that price point I would pick McLaren regardless of depreciation

That looks like a 2017 has to be priced used around 190k not close to a M6. 2017's are less than a year old some purchased to hold over for late delivery RS's. If you don't need rear seats I would do a GT3 or RS if you can find one. I sold my GT3 after two years for what o paid for it. Can't beat cost of ownership! The turbo is a beast and the launch will make you sick it's so fast. A MAC can't be launch repetitively without getting hot ...sexy cars when you several as you will get bored with baby sitting.

How do you compare your GT3 RS with GT3? I know there is a difference but significant difference?

It's the best car I have driven or owned as a all around performer, and cost! Big differences wider rear the car stays planted. More low end torque while still a high revving beast, and steering is hands down better.

What's interesting the GT3 is a damn good car, but big brother is just that good in my opinion. The RS is a very solid driver because of the wider front end, and rear. Can't go wrong with either one, and it will take a lot to pry my RS away.

I almost kept both, but couldn't pass on the trade price. Also basically they do the same thing. I really hope the new M5 is a good car once I get rid of the M4 in a year plus. No rush so I'm good for now, plus I travel so much I have less than 5k miles on the M4. I'm giving BMW one more shot.

@M6-Coupe

have you seen the new C63S coupe? did you drive that, by chance, before you grabbed your comp? I like the looks and sound but need to actually drive it too.

Vic,
I didn't but I test drove the C63s sedan months ago. while I liked the sound (as usual since I love AMG sound), the same two issues are still there... First the transmission is the usual MCT (slow shifting) and the second is that torque vectoring thing doesn't let the tail be happy (with all nannies ON) even the kick we experienced with MDCT ... other than that it's a good car but still Benz type interior... not to compare but nothing close to beautiful AMG GTS interior. Also I completely felt the weight of car and I believe the coupe must be the same.
You should test drive the Coupe to see if there is any difference but they are sharing the same drivetrain I think.

from what ive read on the benz boards, the coupe is more lively and tossable and apparently just better overall in driveability. There are few owners who had the sedan and then bumped to the coupe so it could be their pride talking or the placebo effect.

I too drove the sedan and was underwhelmed in the throttle response/tranny shifting and chassis flex.

Yes, the 911 Turbo S in the pic is the pre-owned 2017 and asking price is 197.

However, the asking price for the GT3RS in NOLA is 300 as they declined an offer for 280. So, Turbo S, I guess, is a "bargain" relative to GT3RS.

The sound of the NA engine in the GT3 family is fabulous. Lot's of great cars out there - Audi R8 V10 Plus, McLaren 570S, Huracan, 458, NSX, MB GTS. However, I have to automatically eliminate any two seaters only, since I need rear seats.

Was the RS PTS? If not 300k is crazy prior to me landing my RS I saw the same spec asking 300k and one for 280k, and I got the same car sub 230k. I had some patience paid a little over but I can sell for more than what I paid all good.

Turbo S is baddass, but depreciates like a MAC well not that bad. You can get a Turbo S 2016 for 50k off MSRP, and a 2017 about 25k off.

Follow-up question:
Did you personally notice and feel the difference between the redline of these two cars?
GT3 = 9,000 RPM
GT3RS = 8,800 RPM

*due to minor differences in the bore and stroke*
