Porting and Polishing Cylinder Heads

For those M5/M6 owners who plan on keeping your cars long long term it would probably be a good idea to at least Polish and Clean your cylinder heads, I would say at least every 100,000 miles, but I would do it every 50,000 miles for better engine performance and reliability.

The video below offers some explanations as to why polishing and cleaning can be good for your engine.

For an M5/M6 engine I would estimate a good polish job would be about $800 bucks. I had my heads ported and polished for about $1,500 total though.

Hope this is informative.

Walnut blasting is only for clearing out carbon.

Not sure on cost to remove heads. I had mine done when engine was being built.

It just depends on how much your shop wants to charge for labor to remove the heads. It's not that hard to do. But benefits of doing a good cleaning and polishing would outweigh the costs. Especially if you want to maintain performance. Especially if you don't always use the highest quality fuels.
