Don’t know - this is a major set back emotionally, psychologically, financially...

I've totalled cars, blown stock and built engines, so I understand...sorry, bro. I can't find pics but hopefully there's items you can salvage to go for M5 #3 :-)

On a happier note...how's the Quickjack working out :-)

Just take a few weeks. I mean you were set to carry the platform this summer, I can't imagine the drain its taken.

But look into options on salvaging what you can vs. rebuilding ground up.

My plan in the event of catastrophe would be:
HIGH milage 2013 in good running condition, get the parts swapped/ redone... You have a built car, its like I always tell the stock motor turbo gtr guys doesn't matter if theres 10k miles on the shell or 100k if its running and good enough to be built / swap who cares.

I'm sure its a majjjjjor setback, but when all the costs are considered + insurance check it might not be as catastrophic as you think.

I'm so sorry what happened to you. You and your M5 are an inspiration to us all. Will your insurance cover the loss?

After going through just having to rebuild my motor I can't imagine how you are feeling after all this.

I did think it was April fools joke given the timing but man I'm sorry.

I always looked to you carrying this platform forward but completely understand if it's time to move on.

If you know for sure the cause of failure, and the motor is still good.....maybe. Otherwise move onto something better/different. Although your knowledge and expertise with this platform is a definite plus to starting over.

A Third Phoenix?

Just an opinion and it is based on my personal life experiences with cars - You are on the leading edge of experience and knowledge of a platform that many people that don't own drool over. If we were voting, I would definitely vote for you sticking with the platform. I have never in my life kept any of my previous muscle cars or Euro cars longer than two years before I sold them and got something else. I have had my M since new and it was the first new one in my area. It still makes me feel the same way since the day I bought it and I don't ever plan on getting rid of it. Just trying to make it better for me.

Thanks for the thoughts and intentions but I wouldn’t feel right doing something like that.

Motor appears fine and has nothing to do with the fire.

I'm very sorry. This is disappointing. Have you identified the failed OEMS component yet?
