Nice, looking forward. 1000 HP iND/AMS Alpha M5 with standard 5 Series bumpers would be "The Ultimate Sleeper".

Standalone EFI

Nate, have you guys ever considered a standalone EFI system to control fuel and timing like Big Stuff 3, Motec, etc??? Just curious if it's something that has been discussed.

That would be nice, but I dont think they would make money from that product considering it would be close to impossible to make it work.
How many F10 M5 owners do you know that would actually go standalone ecu in their luxury sedan?
I used to run Haltech in my DSM and later on switched to AEM EMS. M5 might be overkill.

They will probably answer the question themselves, but IMO that solution would only work on a race car where you don't need any of the other electronics... The DME/ECU is connected to all of the other modules in the car in a web of electronic components. Loose the DME and the rest of the modules won't work. The DCT would also need to have a standalone module and other components such as wipers, AC, navigation etc would not work anymore AFAIK...

BMW also use something called flexray which is some sort of canbus system or addition to the canbus. Getting a standalone ECU to communicate with the flexray and canbus would require a a insane amount of R&D I'm afraid.

But, maybe I'm completely wrong here

Completely agree and was asking since it sounds like they are trying to build an all out race M5 with 1000HP plus. I have been watching from the sidelines for a couple years now and not being able to truly modify the ECU mapping was almost a deterrent to buying a M5 and choosing a E63 S. Ultimately I determined for me the M5 is a more superior car all around and patience for a ECU tune would be rewarded.

Figure it would be complicated but where there is a will there is a way. It sounds like ECU flash tuning is here now or very close. I know John Meaney from Big Stuff 3 runs his own stuff on his F430. If he can figure out how to run a stand alone EFI on the Ferrari I would think its feasible on the M5...not easy but feasible.

Any pics of your stang or the Camaro? I will be in the market for a RS SS pretty soon.

Here is some links to articles and videos for both. The Camaro is at the chassis shop and we are starting it's rebuild soon. The Mustang is also in the chassis shop on the East Coast to get ready for the season opener in Florida on March 22. The video link to Youtube is of a bunch of the cars in our class at SCSN X in November. We have the white Mustang with VIVA logo on the door.

Hope you enjoy.

Thank you and the Camaro will always be my first love. I am looking forward to what it will become with the new upgrades and changes. Sunday morning drives to breakfast will definitely not be boring.

Yes we do race at Famoso and usually run West Coast Hot Rod Association. This year we will primarily race on the East/Midwest with NMCA. We may race at Famoso to make some test hits for SCSN in November. It should be a busy year of racing and God willing a prosperous one.

Thank you and my last name is deceiving, LOL. Long story short my grandparents on my father's side divorced when he was 4. My grandmother remarried when my father was 8 and his "step father" raised him and had the last name Gustafson. But he was far from a step father or step grandfather. My dad was happy to take his last name and he was a wonderful man. I still miss him and cannot believe he has been gone for 23 years. I am actually German, Austrian, Irish and Armenian...

So what happened? Someone hijacked the thread and no more on the 1000HP? Or did they start another thread. I hate it when they do that.

Not sure they will get to 1000, but I expect to get close soon. Already near the 850-900 mark
