I am done with this tune, time for a new one, suggestions?
I believe the car is running an ESS Tune, she is a really nice 2013 F10 with Project Gamma Catless Downpipes, Akra Exhaust, most of what can be bolted on.
The car came with an ESS Tune, but it feels to me like it is just not set right. Feels like there is a slight tap from the engine, and I believe the valves are adjusted in the tune such that some oil gets by so I get smoke out of the exhaust from time to time. I was told this is normal for this tune and they examined the the engine for otherwise obvious mechanical issues. Time for a new tune, I am reading through the posts but would love to get some advice. I had another F10 that was fully tuned by Dinan and it was unreal, so I am going to go to a shop and get it done right to make sure all the components are working right. Appreciate any thoughts in advance. |

sounds like you have a little issue burning oil maybe from blow by or from your pcv. if it doesnt feel right your tune may be masking an issue. but you may be at the start of some mechanical issues that can worsen if not looked after.

I would recommend returning the car to its stock settings. If the issue persists, you'll need to address it before considering a new tune.
However, if the problem is resolved after reverting to stock, you can proceed with getting Bootmod3.

They changed the head gasket and looked over the engine and I was told all is well. I love cars, I just don't have time to do the work myself, but I was told that this specific tune (ESS) changes the variable timing on the valves slightly and oil can get past them and work through the engine to the exhaust. That is what I was told, and I was like... That does not sound right, or the tune is crap. I am taking it to a professional shop and they are going to go through everything top to bottom.

Bootmod3 is a great option as you can do some very detailed logging right to your phone. These engines do consume oil even without a tune. Sage advice from X-PH.com about returning the car back to stock settings. They also offer a great BM3 lic and connector bundle. I have purchased from them a few times and found them to be good folks to do business with.

Definitely give the Evolve tune a look. Ive had 5 different tunes on this platform and the evolve tune for me has been my favorite. Im rather surprised i didnt and havent seen many reviews on it. I have the stage two tune. Consistency and reliability. Consistency with that power is on tap and reliability in that power is on tap haha. Behaves as normal when driving thru traffic and in cruising. Mpg is very acceptable. While in spirited mod it always ready and at the same time within limits. Ive had this tune now for half a year. Mind you ive had a stage 2 tune that was super torquey but that kind of power wasnt for me... frequent wheel spins, very aggressive, and worst of clutch slip. Stock dct clutch clearly wasnt meant for it and feel like maybe the engine itself wouldnt have lasted. The evolve tune at times catches me off guard when i floor it... i mean im used to torque but i forget the seat in the pants feeling i get flooring it at 100mph.
Give it some consideration get some other opinions for sure. Sorry for the long read here. |

With BM3 is there a way to get tunes from places like Evolve? I am trying to understand it and BM3 sounds like Steam to my gamer mind. A place I can get tunes from the OTA or custom tunes from tuners all over. Is that accurate?

I have the Evolve tune as well. I have loved it! Evolve have a lot of details online for the tune itself AND they have a Stage 2 option where they supplied Supersprint catless downpipes - it was a no brainer.
I had an ESS tune in my charged E90 M3 and investigated the ESS tune for my F06 M6, but there was very limited information online and no clear cut “stage 2” option. Evolve gets my vote all day. |
